The delusional world of Shaun McClusky

Send lawyers, guns and money…

Well, lawyers and money anyway. The Tucson Weekly reports on an e-mail sent by Republican Shaun McClusky to his supporters this weekend. McClusky: Come to Court and Send Money | The Range:

Shaun McClusky sent this letter out to supporters asking for a little help from his friends:

Letter To All Of My Supporters

It's down to this. Today a judge removed Ron Asta from the ballot due to insufficient signatures. On Tuesday, I go before the same judge to fight off a challenge launched by the Democratic Party to get rid of me as well. The heart of the challenge against me is based on a technicality, and I have retained John Munger as my legal counsel. Mr. Munger has told me that he is confident we will prevail.

Let's pause right there. I understand that the Pima County Recorder's Office has submitted its review of McClusky's petition signatures to the court, and the evidence will show that McClusky does not have enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, as required by law. This is not a "technicality."

I have to assume McClusky hired John Munger based upon the old lawyer's adage:

There is an old trial lawyers’ saying “When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on you side, pound the table.”

John Munger is a table pounder. It may make for good courtroom theater, but judges decide cases based upon the evidence and the rule of law. And the evidence and the law in this case are against Mr. McClusky.

Later in his missive there is this fantastic assertion by McClusky:

The Democrats who have run Tucson for the last 30 years have a lot to answer for, and I will call them to task for their waste, fraud and sheer incompetence. But my general election opponent has already raised over $200,000 using his inside connections downtown.

If you're willing to give up and leave Tucson in the hands of the same people who wasted a quarter billion dollars on Rio Nuevo, don't come. If you're willing to let them go on raising your taxes and handing the money out to their special-interest friends, don't come. If that's the case, I'll go home too, and we can all enjoy the air-conditioning this summer.

I have to ask, is this guy even from the City of Tucson? How long has he lived here? From 1999 to 2005, the City of Tucson had an effective Republican-majority city council with Republican Mayor Bob Walkup and Republican council members Kathleen Dunbar and Fred Rondstadt, and putative Democrat (switched to Independent) Carol West.

This Republican-majority city council made many of the decisions — the "waste, fraud and sheer incompetence" of which McClusky speaks — during the early years of Rio Nuevo (approved by city voters in 1999) that Republicans and the Arizona Daily Star deliberately create the misimpression were somehow made by the current city council, most of whom were not even elected until 2005 or later. This is an old tactic of compressing timelines and confusing the ill-informed and those with faulty memories.

Jonathan Rothschild has been able to raise money from the local business community, i.e., the "special interests" that McClusky disparages. The fact that the business community supports Jonathan Rothschild undermines the Republican false flag meme that Democrats are not pro-business or anti-business. This is simply a "big lie" that Republicans believe if they repeat it often enough, voters will believe it to be true. It doesn't help when the local daily newspaper aids them in their propaganda.

You can stick a fork in Shaun McClusky, he is done.

Enjoy the air-conditioning this summer, Shaun. Independent Pat Darcy will be joining you.
