The Final Race to The Finish

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

AZFlagThe final vote count from the Primary Election has now been certified for the General Election ballot. There were only a handful of close races decided by late ballots, and only a few write-in candidates from minor parties who qualified for the General Election ballot. One legal challenge remains: Darin Mitchell, a Republican candidate for the House in LD 13 who upset incumbent Republican Rep. Russ Jones, apparently was not a resident of the district and is being challenged on residency grounds by Russ Jones.

  1. There is a recount underway in the Democratic race in CD4. Johnnie Robinson ended only 19 votes ahead of Mikel Weisser, and a statewide reset was triggered on two grounds: the margin was less than 0.1%, and in an election of fewer than 25,000 votes, the margin was less than 50 votes.

Last Friday in Pinal County they found 48 misplaced ballots that hadn’t been counted although they didn’t change the results because both candidates had the same number of votes in them. But who knows what will happen. I know Mikel feels pretty confident that in the end he will win.

They must have the winner by Sept. 17 to print the ballots on time for overseas military personnel. An announcement is expected by the SOS next Monday.
