The GOP sham debate

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The first U.S. Senate debate last night for the Republican candidates was a sham. The questions, which the moderator Frank Camacho indicated were prepared with the help of the Arizona Guardian were designed to encourage personal attacks and a "Wrestlemania" atmosphere. The candidates did not disappoint. The reporters at the Arizona Guardian should be ashamed.

The public deserves a substantive debate on substantive issues. Hopefully, Bill Buckmaster will be more mature and thoughtful with his questions tonight on KUAT channel 6 at 7:00 p.m. I am not optimistic.

Each of the three candidates demonstrated that they lack the substantive knowledge, integrity, character and judgment to serve in the office of U.S. Senator. This debate reflects poorly on them, and the state of Arizona. Once again this state has been embarrassed on the national stage by our Republican politicians.

NB: As I predicted last week, the Arizona Daily Star gave this debate an above-the-fold front page headline with photos continued inside the paper. The Democratic debate last Friday got a few paragraphs inside the paper (no photos) – on Sunday, an "oh yeah, by the way…" treatment. Editorial selection and emphasis of stories indicates editorial bias. The Star's "speak no evil of John McCain" policy is self-evident.
