The Kool-Aid Kids rally for Bumbler Bee

Well, President Bush has already come and gone from the Old Pueblo (don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you).  You didn’t know?

Shrub was here to raise money for Tim Bee in a super-double-secret fund raiser (Shhh! Be very quiet.  No one is supposed to know I’m here).  Maybe he can make himself invisible like Burt Campbell on the classic TV sitcom Soap.  Let’s hope the aliens come to abduct him soon.

Media was not allowed at the fund raiser and it was not known Friday morning how many people attended.  Bush arrives at D-M, preparing to leave Tucson (Tucson Citizen).  Perhaps with the exception of Daniel Scarpinato, the political gossip columnist at the Arizona Daily Star, who has penned his report which tries to make it sound as if he were there and riding along in Bush’s motorcade.  Bush Visit: Air Force One departs from D-M; President’s Tucson visit ends | www.azstarnet.com ®   Maybe all that sucking up he does to the Republican leadership at the state capitol paid off for him with an invitation.  I wonder how his starry-eyed gossip column about The Decider’s visit complies with the new Arizona Daily Star policy regarding disclosure of political affiliation when submitting letters to the editor or opinions to the newspaper?  Disclose political ties in letters, guest opinions | www.azstarnet.com ®  Most of what Daniel writes is opinion disguised as reporting.  But I digress.

You can be certain that the usual Kool-Aid Kids were in attendance, led by local car dealer and Bush high priest Jim Click.  You really have to wonder what tragedy occurred in their lives to make these people such dead-enders.  Are they a cult, like Jonestown in Guyana?  Or ideologues, like the Bush aid quoted by Ron Suskind who proudly proclaimed that "We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality…"

As a proud member of the reality-based community I can report, with profound disappointment, that this week the Time/Rockefeller poll shows 85% of US Unhappy with Economy — Printout — TIME and the U.S. "Misery Index" has climbed to a 15-year high Bloomberg.com: Worldwide.  Bush’s job approval rating is at a dismal 28% in the most recent polls from New York Times/CBS, Washington Post/ABC, AP-Ipsos, and Newsweek, and 26% in Quinniapac.  Bush: Job Ratings  That’s reality.  And it’s no wonder why Bee didn’t want to be seen with Bush (but I bet he got his buddy photo for the old scrap book).

Whatever they are putting in the Kool-Aid, I hope the "kids" didn’t drink and drive after this event.

UPDATE 7/19/2008:  According to Daniel Scarpinato, again trying to make it sound as if he were at this "no press" event, informs readers that Jim Click was not in attendance.  Correction duly noted.  Bush event for Bee raises $500K | www.azstarnet.com ®   In Daniel’s gossip column, he further reports that a self-commissioned poll by the Bee campaign (would this be a poll by GOP pollster Margaret Kenski?) shows Rep. Giffords winning by 7 percent. 13 percent of voters were undecided in his poll. "That’s evidence, Bee says, that Giffords is vulnerable." Political Notebook by Daniel Scarpinato : Bush buoys Bee but frets about YouTube | www.azstarnet.com ®  Word of advice: if your pollster told you this, you really need to hire a new pollster, Timmy.

Perhaps Timmy should take a look at Tedski’s blog over at R-cubed Rum, Romanism and Rebellion » Blog Archive » New Polling Memo which has the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research poll showing Giffords leading Bee by 24 points, 59%-35%.  Giffords also enjoys a 57%-26% favorable/unfavorable rating.  Any politician would love to have these kind of numbers.  A hat tip to Tedski.
