The ‘People’s Veto’ of voter suppression in Maine

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The state of Maine calls its referendum process the "people's veto." Maine's crazy Tea-Publican governor, Paul LePage (Gov. Paul LePage Takes Aim at Mural to Maine’s Workers – NYTimes.com), tried to do away with same-day voter registration in Maine — something voters in Maine have enjoyed for 38 years without any evidence of "voter fraud."

The people of Maine said "oh, hell no!" and put this GOP voter suppression plan on the ballot for a "people's veto" as Question 1.

The Associated Press has called it — the "people's veto" has won by a margin of 60-40 percent at this point.

This classic overreach by Tea-Publicans to suppress voting rights in Maine has been defeated by the people.
