The boxed in Septuagenarian Ninja Turtle, Mitch McConnell, who promised upon become Senate Majority Leader that there would be no government shutdowns on his watch, is preparing to throw the Tea Party Caucus in the TanMan’s House under the bus.
The Turtle will bifurcate the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill that the Tan Man sent him into two separate bills — a “clean” DHS funding bill, which will pass, and a purely symbolic bill to let the GOP vent about the imperialist law breaking tyrant in the White House who does not share their unhinged hatred for people breathing while brown. Democrats will filibuster this bill, which would be vetoed by Obama in any event. It is purely theater for the conservative media entertainment complex, and for fundraising letter to the crazy base back home.
The question remains, can the TanMan, Weeper of the House John Boehner, herd the cats in his Tea Party Caucus and pass the “clean” DHS funding bill in the House after giving up their hostage demands? The smart money is on “HELL No he can’t!”
The Hill reports, McConnell ready to move ‘clean’ bill to avert Homeland Security shutdown:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday said the Senate may vote “very quickly” on a clean Department of Homeland Security funding bill.
Days before a shutdown of the critical agency, McConnell said he would “be happy” to pass a clean DHS funding bill before the Senate considers a narrow measure overturning President Obama’s most recent executive actions on immigration.
His plan, if accepted by Senate Democrats and House Republicans, would prevent Homeland Security from shutting down on Saturday.
McConnell noted the Senate is scheduled to vote Friday on legislation he introduced this week to reverse President Obama’s 2014 executive order shielding up to 5 million illegal immigrants from deportation.
The majority leader said Tuesday that he could agree to first allow a vote on a bill funding the Homeland Security agency.
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nev.), however, said Tuesday that he would not greenlight McConnell’s plan until he hears from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) that it can pass the House.
McConnell had previously agreed to drop language that also sought to overturn Obama’s 2012 executive actions on immigration. That language was included in a bill that approved the House.
John Boehner can’t find his own ass with both hands behind his back. There is no way he can pull this off by the end of the week. Capitol observers are predicting that the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight will have to settle for a series of short-term stopgap funding measures, something they wanted to avoid, while the appeal from the U.S. District Court for Texas plays out in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Their alternative is to simply let the Department of Homeland Security shutdown at midnight on Friday. This is still a possibility. Then Tea-Publicans had better hope and pray that no terrorist act occurs within the U.S. during their foot stomping temper tantrum shutdown of DHS. There will be hell to pay for their reckless irresponsibility.
