“The Loft Cinema celebrates Tucson’s birthday month (August, 1775) with a special 35th anniversary screening of the totally awesome 1986 hot car cult classic, The Wraith, starring Charlie Sheen, Sherilyn Fenn and Randy Quaid, shot on location right here in the Old Pueblo! See Hollywood stars do their thing in downtown Tucson, Sabino Canyon, Sam Hughes neighborhood and more, all on the big screen! And enter our FREE RAFFLE for fun Tucson-errific prizes!
The Arizona Highways ignite and the Old Pueblo explodes when The Wraith comes calling for revenge! Filmed on location in Tucson, this fun, totally ‘80s explosion of fast cars, ghostly terror and Charlie Sheen shenanigans tells the story of a mysterious dude named Jake (Sheen) who shows up in Tucson (or, “Brooks, AZ,” as it’s called in the film), in a bitchin’ black car (that would be the infamous Turbo Interceptor), ready to make trouble for a local gang of murderous teen drag-racers who are definitely up to no good. As the Ozzy Osbourne and Motley Crue tunes shred the soundtrack, the evil gang members (who sport cool names like “Skank,” “Gutterboy” and “Rughead,” the latter played by the hilarious Clint Howard, sporting a killer Eraserhead haircut), meet with a series of grisly “accidents,” teen waitress Sherilyn Fenn falls in love, Tucson sheriff Randy Quaid brings the hammer down, and soon Jake’s true identity is revealed … and no, he’s not really Emilio Estevez in disguise – he just might be the undead, leather jumpsuit-wearing, revenge-seeking Wraith! Spooky! Will Tucson ever be the same again? (Dir. by Mike Marvin, 1986, USA, 93 mins., Rated PG-13) “
