The latest numbers from Carol Zimmerman polling for the AZ Daily Star are a surprise only to those who hoped the race had closed further. It confirms the trend shown by KAET’s earlier polling, but no one has been able show me a poll with any numbers tighter than 8% shown in the KAET poll.
The Star’s numbers look good, though I wish they would have spent the money on a large enough sample size to get an MOE of under 3% (doubling the sample size would have been nice). After all, this is one the most watched races in the nation. Cheapskates.
Giffords still enjoys a very forbidding and sexy lead. There really is no way that, short of a major political earthquake, Graf can overtake Giffords. Undecideds are polling as leaning Democratic at a ratio of 2:1 all across America, I doubt that pattern stops at the border of CD 8 (though perhaps there’s another border Graf would like to see sealed). Graf needs ALL the remaining undecideds to be competitive, and that’s simply not going to happen.
The only thing that can stop Gabby Giffords from being the next Congresswoman from CD 8 is complacency. Not on her part, though that would hurt; but on the part of Democratic and Independent voters who have had enough, but figure this one’s in the bag, so why bother voting? Or those Republicans who decide that, rather than vote for a Democrat and send their party a loud and clear message, they’ll just not vote. Turn-out can still rain on Gabby’s parade. Don’t let it.
Vote. And encourage others to do so, regardless of the party. The most important thing you can do between now and the election is simply everything you possibly can to increase voter participation and turn-out. If we can do just 5% better at turning-out the Democrat vote in this off-year election than we have historically, Arizona can send a Democratic-majority delegation to a Democratically controlled Congress. Wouldn’t that be a nice Christmas present for our boys overseas? A Congress that actually has our troops’ backs, rather than their noses buried in the President’s ass?
Moveon.org is running a virtual phonebanking project which is targeting low-turn-out Democrats. You call and encourage other Democrats to cast their votes who might not otherwise do so. No sales pitch, no hostile undecideds, just getting people to use their power as citizens. It’s painless and does more with less than any other effort you could make. You can work solo, or you sign up to attend a calling party, or even host one if you like.

Here is the math. Nine months of being called a closet conservative Republican + three months of being called a liberal/leftist extremist = A Moderate. Which is what she has claimed to be all along, and what the voters in CD 8 are and say they want to send to Washington.
I am still waiting for those anti-Giffords adds with the ex-El Campo employees to air, the ones that we were told over and over on the blogs that Jim Click had paid for and they were in the can ready to roll….
Giffords or Graf…hmmmm…Graf would repeal the 16th Amendment and end all personal income taxes. Then replace the funding with a national sales tax…which would have to be 25+%. Wow, glad he is not some extremist conservative whack job. Because if he was he would…huh, cannot think of a single thing that one could do to be more right wing than he is….

Only problem is that Gabby slipped when she admitted that she would vote to reauthorize the Clinton Gun Ban. This shows her extremist colors.
Gabrielle Giffords would vote to ban guns
Gabrielle Giffords is no moderate. She is a liberal, anti-gunner who has stated that she would vote to reauthorize the Clinton Gun Ban, which expired in September 2004.
This ill conceived piece of legislation banned guns based on purely cosmetic features. If a certain gun looks a certain way, then that gun would be banned. At the same time, many guns that were functionally identical to the banned guns remained legal.
And what is the rationale for banning firearms based on mere cosmetic features? The answer lies in the politics of gun control. While it is currently politically impractical to ban all firearms, the foot in the door is to ban those firearms that look “evil”. The idea is to tell the public that only “evil” guns are being banned. Then, after the public has become used to the ban of evil guns, you come back for a second pass. You say that many guns have slipped through a “loophole” in the law and these guns that slipped through the loophole are functionally identical to the banned, evil guns and therefore they also should also be banned. Aren’t anti-gunners clever!
So, when Gabrielle Giffords says that she would vote to reauthorize the Clinton Gun Ban, she is really admitting that she intends to support a broad attack on all firearms ownership nationwide. Yes, she intends to ban firearms. Yes, she is anti-gun. And yes, she is a liberal pretending to be a moderate.
The Clinton Gun Ban made no sense and finally, even the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has admitted that it had no effect of crime. Yet Gabrielle Giffords has stated that she would vote to reauthorize such a senseless law that serves no purpose other than to advance the cause of gun control.

My Mother and I spent the afternoon with Cele Peterson talking about old times and my Mothers being a seamstress Cele wants her to display and sell Squaw Dresses in her store. We have know Cele since the 1940’s.
This brings me to what Cele asked my mother at the visit; are you going to vote for Gabrielle Giffords? My Mother was taken back because she was NOT there to talk about Politics. She told Cele that her son Dwight was running for Congress; standing next to her. My mother also told her of the time being a little girl how she promised GODshe would read his book;every word. Cele said to my Mother as she put her hand on her arm ” And Did You Read The Bible?” My Mother said yes word for word. My Father owned Firestone Stores on 6th avenue back in the 1950’s also and did business with GIFF GIFFORDS Gabriells father. You should hear some of the stories he tells about recaps falling off of tires as Giff stood there watching them fall off and selling them to customers.
The Giffords thing is just that “A THING.” She created this THING and I have no idea why so many people bought into this THING; being a friend of the very same people Gabrielle claims to have known for 20 years I knew for 50 years.
My Ideas have been adopted by Giffords including Securing The Border, Holding Employeers accountable and NO AMNESTY. If she would have said these very same things as a ACLU Borad Member when I first announced for Congress in 2004 at an April meeting of the ACLU at the VISCOUNT they would have thrown her off the board. I was called down after the meeting by the President of the ACLU Tucson Chapter by saying everything fits EXCEPT THE BORDER STAND!
I also talked with Dorthy Finely and Eddie Basha in the past and there take on Giffords is very different.
My Sister-In-Law Susan Bring of Brings Funeral Homes INC. President of The Tuson Business Womans Association also knows Giffords as a Republican Business Woman OWNER and MEMBER. She was taken back when I told her Gifords was a Democrat!
Now all of you can tell Me , My Mother and Cele Peterson , Eddie Basha; and Dorthy Finely all kinds of tales that Garbrieel has told you , but nothing matches up with her families History.
You all bought into this THING now make this THING do what she says she will do!

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry – maybe I’ll do both. Some so-called progressives do not find Gabby pure enough to support. On the other side, they find her too liberal to support. There is nothing she can do to satisfy both ends of the spectrum so I suggest she do what she is doing: stand on her record in the AZ legislature and – like I am doing – pray that November 8 comes before we all lose our minds!

Just extending the thought, though, back in September I actually thought we were going to get a lot more wacko postings after the primary. I had notions of the equivalent of GOP Cowboy Hat Woman on the blogs.
It never really happened.
Then again, we could always go to the online Star and read what happens after their stories.

Did you know that she recently rear ended a minority U of A student in her car and when he got out of the car and showed her that he had hurt his neck and wanted to call the police she refused and kept talking on her cell phone?
She told him that it was just a minor accident and that she had to get going. And when he again asked her to call the police she asked him “do you know who I am?”
Can you Imagine her arrogance?
To ask “do you know who I am?” to someone that she has just injured in an auto accident?
Like her time was worth more than making sure that this injured student was OK and had proper documentation of his injury for his insurance.
She had to be asked to call the police a dozen times before she called the cops and then she was cited for speeding.
Gabrielle Giffords is just another spoiled rich kid who is pretending to be for the common man.
Make no mistake, she is a liberal masquerading as a moderate who will tax the middle class, not the rich, in order to achieve her liberal agenda.
Before the primary, the polls showed Giffords with a 10% lead on Graf. Now after all the money and effort since that poll…Giffords over Graf by 10%.
