Tim has some esplainin’ to do

I was contacted by a reader who was irate about a mail piece received from Tim Sultan, candidate for the House in LD 28:

I just received in the mail literature from a Tim Sultan running for State Representative, and the blue page (not his slick ad) says, "Tim Sultan is the only candidate to qualify for the ballot and receive clean elections funding."

This sounds inaccurate. Maybe it's a point you can make something of.

As a matter of fact, Tim's claim is entirely inaccurate, as we reported here on April 3, 2010 in the last SWAG Update:

Candidates participating in Citizens Clean Elections are beginning to qualify for their primary campaign disbursements. Gubernatorial candidates Jan Brewer and Terry Goddard have qualified. Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate John Huppenthal has qualified. Corporation Commissioner candidate Brenda Burns has qualified. Candidates for the House of Representatives Michael Conway (LD18), Scott Perkinson (LD19), Frank Pratt (LD23), and Tim Sultan (LD28) have qualified. House candidates Bob Gilby (LD27) and Mohur Sidhwa (LD28) sent us press releases this week to let us know they have submitted their paperwork to qualify.

I have verified that both Bob Gilby (LD27) and Mohur Sidhwa (LD28) have since received and deposited their Clean Elections checks. The Clean Elections online information is apparently slow to update.

Now this may seem like a small exaggeration, but I have been contacted by several persons who are in a position to know the facts about other exaggerated claims being made by Tim Sultan in this campaign. I heard complaints about the same exaggerated claims when he ran for Congress in 2004. These individuals in the know are not yet willing to go on the record. However, it is apparently common knowledge as I have heard these same stories repeated by others.

So you are on notice Tim. I know what others know, I have sources, and when they are ready to go on the record, I will report it. You have some esplainin' to do.
