Time for unions to stand united against this assault on working people

Union-fightPolice and fire unions have, for various reasons, supported and endorsed Republican candidates and causes over the years. This often put them at odds with other public sector unions and trade unions.

Some of the teachers unions have endorsed Republican candidates on the specious grounds that it is a Republican dominated district and they wanted to establish good will with some Republicans in the legislature. How has that plan worked out for you?

All of these public sector unions should take note of the condescension towards you from Sen. Rick Murphy, the lead sponsor of the four anti-union bills passed in the committee he chairs this week. Anti-union Sen. Rick Murphy and his union ties (subscription required):

A review of Murphy’s campaign finance records shows he started accepting union contributions in 2005, which was his first year at the state Capitol.

Murphy, who unveiled a package of anti-union bills this week, said Thursday that he takes donations from most groups because, “it always takes money to get elected.”

If my opponents are willing to waste their money on me then why should I stop them,” Murphy said. “If anything, this demonstrates good ethics because if I took the money and sabotaged these bills that would be questionable.”

Time for Police, Fire and Teacher unions to lock arms with your brothers and sisters in other unions and to stand united against this assault on working people and the American middle-class.
