by David Safier

The Freedom Summer Community Education events have already begun. Sorry for not mentioning them here earlier. The first was last Sunday, "The Academic Benefits of Ethnic Studies and Mexican American Studies for Tucson Students." According to Curtis Acosta, about 80-100 people attended the event.

Here are the next two events, to be held at the John Valenzuela Youth Center, 1550 S. 6th Avenue, South Tucson:

July 15 – The Academic Power of Bilingual Education
Sal Gabaldon – TUSD Language Acquisition Specialist

July 22 – The School-to-Prison Pipeline:The Educational Crisis for Latino Youth
Raúl Alcaraz and Sean Arce
