Tucson Mayor Regina Romero Endorses Kirsten Engel in the Race for the New Arizona Congressional District Six

In a major positive development for former State Senator Kirsten Engel’s campaign to secure the Democratic nomination for the new and competitive Arizona House Congressional District Six Seat, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero has endorsed her candidacy.

In a social media release, Mayor Romero posted:

In the announcement, Mayor Romero further stated:

“Kirsten is hands down the environmental candidate in this race, with a proven record and experience as both a professor and a state legislator in combatting the climate crisis.

As our next Congresswoman, Kirsten will fight to bring good-paying union jobs, infrastructure investment, and economic and workforce development opportunities to Southern Arizona.”

In a press release thanking Mayor Romero for the endorsement, former State Senator Engel relayed:

“I am honored to have the support of an environmental champion like Mayor Romero, who continues to lead on local climate initiatives and bring much needed attention to the disproportionate consequences of climate change on communities of color. Arizona has witnessed record-breaking temperatures, drought, and wildfires. The time to act on climate is now. I look forward to working together with Mayor Romero on infrastructure projects that will address the climate crisis and, at the same time, bring more investments in clean energy and clean jobs to our city,”
