Travel to any other city and pick up a weekly newspaper. You're likely to see some good local gossip, personal and political, maybe one good feature, and lots of coverage of the local art and music scene. Pick up the Tucson Weekly and you're likely to be reading column after column and article after article, almost all of them worth your time if the topic interests you (and sometimes even if it doesn't). Did I mention the Skinny?
The Tucson Weekly is a unique Tucson treasure. No wonder The Weekly picked up the General Excellence award along with 35 other awards in the Arizona Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

Yes. I grew up in the 60s and 70s in NYC reading the Village Voice, which I later worked for as a messenger when it was still a good paper. Of course it was taken over by the Phoenix-based New Times chain (we had them when I lived in South Florida, too) and those papers really declined, if they were ever that good. They’re OK (the chain was just sold again) but nothing like Tucson Weekly. I have to been to Tucson in my life and I get their weekly and daily dispatches. They are even better than some of the better weeklies like DC Paper. I’m not quite sure how they do it, but they deserve all the awards they get.
