Tucson, AZ March Against Monsanto ~ Tucson, is part of a grassroots global movement. People on 6 continents, in 49 countries, in over 300 cities and in 47 states in the USA will unite to March Against Monsanto. The Tucson gathering begins with registration at 11am including a free raffle ticket for every participant, music and speakers will follow.
The March loop starts 12pm – 1:30pm and includes a walk along the northbound path to Camino Campestre, west to Country Club, south to 22nd St., east to Lakeshore Dr. then back north to the Festival area.
Speakers include: Melissa Diane Smith-GMO Free Project of Tucson, Jared Keen-Plant-Based Nation, Cara Silverstein-ShopOrganic.com, and many more. Music: Jay Wesley Anderson from The Impending Flip, The Natives Are Restless and others. There will be many terrific raffle prizes, face painting and balloons for the children and great information available.
We March because research studies have shown that Monsanto’s genetically-modified foods can lead to serious health conditions such as the development of cancer, tumors, infertility & birth defects. 60 plus countries either ban or label GMOs, but not in the USA. In the USA, the FDA, the agency tasked with ensuring food safety for the population, is steered by ex-Monsanto executives, and we feel that’s a questionable conflict of interest and explains the lack of government-lead research on the long-term effects of GMO products. Recently, the U.S. Congress and president collectively passed the nicknamed “Monsanto Protection Act” that, among other things, bans courts from halting the sale of Monsanto’s genetically-modified seeds. For decades, Monsanto has been the benefactor of corporate subsidies and political favoritism. Organic and small farmers suffer losses while Monsanto continues to forge its monopoly over the world’s food supply, including patenting rights on seeds. We march in solidarity to take back our food supply and support GMO labeling in Arizona.
Public Information: This is a family friendly gathering. We encourage you to bring: signs, water, hats, sunglasses, lunch, and overall protection from the sun and heat. We want to stay on the sidewalks and obey all traffic signs/ordinances. Water stations will provided during the march. There is plenty of parking throughout Reid Park however, carpooling and public transportation are always encouraged.
