The 2010 Juneteenth Celebration

The Tucson Juneteenth Festival Planning Committee will be hosting its 40th Annual Juneteenth Festival June 18th through June 20th. The Tucson activities include a Gospel Festival and a two-day celebration event with food, song and dance.

The Juneteenth Gospel Festival will be held June 18th from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Kennedy Park Fiesta area. The 2010 Juneteenth Festival will take place at the Kennedy Park Fiesta Area, located at La Cholla Blvd. and Ajo Way June 19th and 20th. Times: Saturday June 19 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday June 20 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. For a complete schedule of Juneteenth events go to Tucson Juneteenth Calendar.

Friday June 11 – VIP Reception

TUL will host a Juneteenth VIP reception at the Quincie Douglass Library 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Saturday June 12 – Movies in the Park

COX Communications and the City of Tucson with the Tucson Juneteenth Committee will present “Movies in the Park” to be held at Vista del Pueblo Park. Time TBA for more information call Burney Starks 883-5511.

Sunday June 13 – Juneteenth Day of Reconciliation and Prayer

Area Churches and Spiritual leaders will recognize Juneteenth and pray for continued freedom and strength

Monday June 14 – Wednesday June 16 – Community Forum (Topic/location to be determined)

Forums, topics, times and locations will be announced. Forum Hosts: Tucson Urban League; the Tucson-Southern Arizona Black Chamber of Commerce and the Pima County Democratic African American Caucus.

Thursday June 17 – Juneteenth – Community outreach activity
Community Foodbank work – 9:00 – 12:00 (volunteers must be over 14 years old)

Friday June 18 – Gospel Jubilee 6:00 – 10:00 Kennedy Park Fiesta Area. FREE!!!!
Celebration with inspirational entertainment; food, fun and information

Saturday June 19 – Community Recognition – Juneteenth Roots A.M. 9:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.
Parade on A Mountain; recognition of Tucson Juneteenth beginnings with Plaque at Park; family picnic
This event will commemorate the first Juneteenth celebration in Tucson at Vista del Pueblo Park.

Saturday June 19 – Hip Hop/R & B Showcase and Competition 4:00 – 10:00 Kennedy Park Fiesta Area Admission is FREE. Dance/Step teams; hip hop/rap artists; R & B; other variety acts with a competition for a super prize (five hours of professional studio time)

Sunday June 20 – Father’s Day recognition/celebration (12:00 – 2:00)

Sunday June 20 – Remembering Our Fathers 4:00 – 8:00 Kennedy Park Fiesta Area Admission is Free
