Did you know the City of Tucson has a city council election this year? And that early vote-by-mail balloting begins this Thursday, October 8th? Have you seen any reporting about the candidates and their stances on the issues in the Arizona Daily Star? No? That is because there hasn't been any.
The Star on Sunday demonstrates once again it's complete inability to cover local elections. Rather than inform its readers about the candidates and their stances on the issues, it published a candy-ass fluff piece by reporter Tim Steller about the Tucson Tea Party, Tea Party group seeks added momentum, pretty much already covered earlier in the week by the Star's education reporter Rhonda Bodfield in a "he said – she said" story compiled from dueling press releases from the Pima County Democratic and Republican Parties, and the Tucson Tea Party group.
Look, if you are not going to use your newspaper to inform and educate the public about local elections then allow me to borrow it until November 3rd. The publisher and editors of the Arizona Daily Star are failing miserably in the duty of the "Fourth Estate" enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution to inform and educate the public, particularly in matters of local elections. The Star sucks!
