Update: Someone may want to check into this

I told you about something hinky going on with the Yuma County Republican Party on Sunday. Someone may want to check into this:

I am aware that a lot of money is being funneled through the Yuma County Republican Party. I have heard from life-long Democrats who have received robo calls paid for by Yuma County, and Yuma County paid for this AZ GOP Mailer: Dem Is Letting Illegal Immigrants Shoot Up Our Neighborhoods | TPMDC. As the song says, "There's something happening here / What it is ain't exactly clear."

Today the Arizona Republic adds to the mystery but does not shed any light on the situation. Yuma Republicans weigh in on District 20 House race:

Yuma is a long way from Chandler and Ahwatukee Foothillsbut a campaign flier critical of incumbent Democrat Rae Waters credits Republicans in that southwestern Arizona city as the source.

The mailing accuses Waters of voting against Senate Bill 1070, the state's tough immigration law, and said her vote "invites drugs and violence into our schools and neighborhoods." It features a photo of a toddler and a bullet-ridden Stop sign and instructs recipients to "Cast your vote AGAINST Rae Waters."

Waters said she did not vote against SB1070 but was called out of town for a family medical emergency the day of the vote. "I oppose amnesty, sanctuary cities, roadside employment solicitation, and human smuggling. (The mailings) are flat-out lies."

* * *

Printed on the flier is: "Paid for by Arizona Business Development Coalition . . . Major funding provided by Yuma County Republican Central Committee" and a Yuma telephone number. The woman who answered the phone said she had nothing to do with the mailing and is upset that her home phone number was used. "I live in Yuma; how my phone number got on that flier, I don't know but I'm getting calls and I would like them to stop," she said. Waters' Republican opponents, Jeff Dial and Bob Robson, said they had nothing to do with the hit pieces. "Jeff and I are pretty much sticking to the issues. Nothing coming from us is attacking her," Robson said.

OK, so the reporter has a campaign mailer with a bogus "paid for by" legal disclaimer that leads to a woman who says she has nothing to do with the mailer and she is upset that her home phone number is being used. But this is where the reporter, Edythe Jensen, leaves readers with a cliff hanger.

A bogus legal disclaimer is a violation of campaign finance law. Someone is breaking the law here. How about someone who gets paid to do this kind of research dig deeper to find out who is behind this secret funding of GOP attack mailers coming out of Yuma County?

Is anyone at the Arizona Democratic Party hecking into this?
