I must admit, I've watched the Redistricting Commission's work from afar. But we're down to crunch time, and the Pima County Democratic Party says it's important for people to attend the Monday meeting. It starts at 9:30am. It's important for people to show up to make sure the congressional and legislative maps contain a reasonable number of competitive districts. The right will be there in force.
I plan to go, for the first time.
Here's the word from the Pima County Democratic Party:
Make Time Monday for a Decade's Worth of Elections
We really need your help. Monday's meeting of the Independent Redistricting Committee will go a long way in determining whether politicians choose voters or if voters choose political leaders — the way that democracies are supposed to work.
The commission is looking at two maps. Map One is the result of political pressure out of Phoenix and Map Two will empower independent voters in three congressional districts and more legislative districts. Map Two gives more voters a voice in Phoenix and Washington and is the map the commission is focusing on now. Public input right now is driving the process. The Tea Party is mobilized and will be in attendance. We need our people out, too.
The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Tucson, 1900 E. Speedway Blvd. If you are going to to attend the meeting contact Justin Unga, or call him at (602)234-6811 for more information.
This is a very important meeting. If you've been waiting for the most crucial moment to have your voice heard, this is it.
