Watch PCDP candidate forums for Ward 3 and 6 Tucson City Council races

The Democratic primaries for Tucson City Council are coming up on August 3, 2021 in Wards 3 and 6.  The primaries are in the wards only, not citywide till the General Election on November 2, 2021.

Running in Ward 3 open seat are Kevin Dahl, conservation activist and Juan Padres, businessman. Juan ran before against incumbent District 3 Dem Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson in August 2020.

No primary contest in Ward 5 as 3 term incumbent Councilmember Richard Fimbres is running unopposed.

In Ward 6, two Dem challengers Andres Portela III and Miranda Schubert are facing off with 3 term incumbent Steve Kozachik.  Andres is a former Council aide in Ward 1, and Miranda is a UA College of Medicine advisor.  Both are political newcomers.

Councilman Steve Kozachik (aka Steve K) has been endorsed by his colleagues Richard Fimbres (Ward 5), Paul Cunningham (Ward 2) and Nikki Lee (Ward 4). Ward 1 Councilmember Lane Santa Cruz recently endorsed Miranda over her former Council aide Andres and her colleague Steve K.

UPDATE 7/8/21:  Ward 3 Councilmember Karin Uhlich endorsed Miranda Schubert today, over her colleague Steve K. and also endorsed Kevin Dahl for Ward 3, and Richard Fimbres for Ward 5.

View these two videos hosted by Pima County Democratic Party if you’re undecided on whom to vote for in the primary.  The Ward 3 forum was held on June 5, and the Ward 6 one on July 12.  Early ballots go out this week on July 7.
