What We’re Thankful For…

I asked members of Drinking Liberally what they are feeling thankful for this Thanksgiving. These are some of the responses:

I am thankful for friends who laugh and cry with me, thankful for family who loves unconditionally, thankful that I can take freedoms for granted, thankful for a job I love, thankful for $3 pints of beer at the shanty, and thankful I am no longer married to a cheating bastard. 🙂

I give thanks for the things that sweeten my life: my family, my friends, good books, a perfect glass of wine and a great meal, the Beatles on my IPod, a blissful hour of yoga, a laugh shared with my husband, a silly email from my sons.

I try and remember to be thankful for the small stuff too: watching hummingbirds in the garden while I sip a morning cup of tea, ripe tomatoes at the farmers market, art in local galleries that open my eyes and make me think. I’m even grateful for the wonder of my backyard saguaro, which just started growing arms! How cool is that!

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how thankful I am for having found a community of like-minded, rabble-rousing, trouble-making liberals. I feel right at home, and for that I am very thankful 🙂

I give thanks that it’s not possible for a president to have more than two terms in the USA….

I also give thanks that sales tax is a State Domain and not Federal (we can shop online and avoid it) and that not all of America’s wealth has been spent on the War in Iraq (only most of it)…

Well I can tell you right away that I am very
thankful each and every day just for the things that I can take for granted that
most of the people in the word do not know or enjoy and possibly never
will.
And it is my wish that more people will realize the importance
of paying attention to the world around them and assure that we can
continue to enjoy so much of what we are so fortunate to have.
And yes, I am thankful too for the fun group of nice people
whose company I enjoy every Thursday at Drinking Liberally.

I am thankful that I don’t live in places like Iraq where my country is visiting death and destruction on a hapless people. I am thankful I earn more than the US minimum wage. I am thankful my family has health insurance. I am thankful I have a warm, clean, safe, and comfortable home. I am thankful I have money to buy good food and I know how to make good meals. I am thankful my wife and sons are healthy and safe. Most of all, I am thankful for my own good health.
