I watched the “One World: Together At Home” concert last night out of curiosity. Some of the world’s top stars performed from home on video helping to raise nearly $128 million for the World Health Organization during the coronavirus pandemic by performing in a virtual concert broadcast globally. Global concert raises more than $127M for WHO emergency response fund.
Global Citizen, an international advocacy group that organized the event, said early Sunday on Twitter that $127.9 million had been pledged in donations.
Following the live broadcast, Global Citizen tweeted: “$127.9 million for COVID-19 relief. That is the power and impact of One World: #TogetherAtHome.”
I hope for success in finding a cure, soon. This virtual concert was a sad reminder for me of an earlier global concert event, Live Aid for Ethiopian famine relief in July 1985, the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40% of the world population.
When tomorrow comes, and it is safe for all of us to gather together again at concert venues, the world is going to need something like Live Aid with large stadium concerts around the world to celebrate victory over the coronavirus — and to raise aid for the economic devastation that the coronavirus is about to leave in its wake. The world is going to want to celebrate coming out of the darkness.
Until then, here is Freddie Mercury and Queen performing at Wembley Stadium in London for Live Aid in July 1985. Gawd, I wish I could have been there.

Can’t believe I agree with Az BlueMeanie about Freddie Mercry and Queen. Maybe some things do transcend politics.
