When people evaluate the best candidates to help lead them, they should consider deeds and accomplishments more than words and personality.
Unfortunately, that is not always the case as people again and again fall for the fiction of a person they perceive as strong and decisive despite the reality of what they stand for and their records.
Look at George W. Bush and how well that turned out for the country with 9/11, the War in Iraq, the quagmire in Afghanistan, an exploding deficit with two tax cuts for the rich, and the Great Recession.
Look at Donald Trump and what he and his Project 2025 White Nationalist Blackshirts are doing to the nation after a plurality of the people, suffering amnesia from Trump’s poor handling of the Coronavirus, serial lying, enabling of the domestic terrorist attack on January 6, 2021, multiple impeachments and criminal convictions, rewarded him with a second term that he has devoted to retribution, legalized terror on the streets, the construction of domestic concentration camps, a Billionaires first and everyone else can go to Hell economic program, and a shutdown of his and his cronies designs that will increase the suffering of the American People with rising health care premiums and increased food insecurity.
While MAGA Republicans lie, hide on paid vacation from their duties in Congress, or devote their energies to a White House Ballroom while millions of people, including children and the most vulnerable face starvation thanks to The Felon in Chief’s refusal to release federal contingency funds to help Americans buy groceries at the start of the holiday season through the SNAP program, Governors like Arizona’s Katie Hobbs, who earlier this month, released state funds to help people with housing and rental assistance, are taking steps to mitigate the suffering inflicted on them by Marie “Let Them Starve Trump.”
In a press announcement released earlier today (October 29, 2025,) Governor Hobbs’s team, reacting to Trump’s Project 2025 drive to further cut off access to food assistance through his shutdown, announced that she was releasing $1.8 million in American Rescue Plan Funds (a Biden/Harris achievement) to “support Arizonans devastated by the Trump administration withholding food assistance from Arizona children, seniors and vulnerable families.”
According to the press release:
- $1.5 million will go to food banks across the state to help with the SNAP deficits caused by Trump and his supporters.
- $300,000 will be given to “Food Bucks Now, a new emergency fresh food program deployed through the Double Up Arizona network to shore up food assistance for families who participate in SNAP.” Eligible participants will receive a $30 voucher.
The Governors office provided links for Arizonans to help support the food banks and the food bucks programs.
In the press release, Governor Hobbs wrote:
“It is appalling that the Trump administration is choosing to withhold food from vulnerable Arizona families, using them as leverage in their political games. The State of Arizona does not have the money to backfill the disastrous decisions being made by Washington Republicans, but I am taking every action possible to mitigate the damage done to everyday people in our state.
“I’m proud to deliver this much needed relief to families who are worried about putting food on the table, but also recognize it falls short of the $150 million in food assistance the federal government delivers to Arizonans every month. As someone who at times has relied on food stamps to get by, it is devastating to imagine what Arizona families are going through as they try to put food on the table for their families. President Trump must act today to ensure veterans, seniors and vulnerable children in Arizona don’t go hungry this November.
“We are living through an unprecedented attack on food assistance funding, but I know Arizonans can come together and deliver help to some of the most vulnerable families in our state.”
In the press release, he team wrote:
“Governor Hobbs is also calling on retailers, grocers, and Arizona’s fresh produce industry to step up and support the state’s most vulnerable residents by contributing food, resources, and logistical support to communities facing heightened need.”

Arizona’s Legislative Leaders offered their support to Governor Hobbs’s actions.
Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan stated:
“President Trump is callously using Arizona families to prove a political point instead of deploying $6 billion at his disposal to deliver immediate relief to our constituents. Vulnerable Arizonans are at risk of going hungry this November because of this failed leadership. I’m glad Arizona Democrats are stepping up where Republicans have failed, by delivering some relief and building on investments won in the FY26 state budget, such as Senator Sears’ advocacy for the Double Up Food Bucks program. By bringing our community together, volunteering, donating and supporting our neighbors through emergency relief we are taking immediate action to mitigate the disastrous impact of Republicans’ negligence.”
House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos offered:
“While Washington Republicans play politics and cause chaos, Governor Hobbs is showing real leadership and doing everything she can to ensure no Arizonan goes hungry. House Democrats have consistently made alleviating hunger a top priority, which is why we recently volunteered at St. Mary’s Food Bank and won funding to make school meals free for students from working families. As someone who worked at food banks before being elected to office, I’ve seen the faces of parents choosing between rent and groceries. Governor Hobbs is fighting for them — and House Democrats are proud to have her back.”
On social media, Governor Hobbs issued two posts:
Hobbs’s actions come a day after Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes declared “I will not stand by as Arizona families go hungry,” and close to two dozen other Democratic Attorney Generals and Governors launched a law suit seeking to force the Trump regime to release approved contingency funds into the SNAP program.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero offered her support for Hobbs’s actions, posting:
“I appreciate @GovernorHobbs intervening to help Arizonans. As Trump chooses to end SNAP benefits, it’s clear that Republicans do not want to help working families.”
Representative Greg Stanton congratulated Governor Hobbs for taking the steps she did to help feed the people Marie Trump would let starve, writing:
“Good on @GovernorHobbs. Arizona food banks are doing incredible work—but it shouldn’t have come to this. Trump has the money to fund SNAP through November, and provide relief to families, seniors and veterans. He’s choosing not to use it.”
In Congress, while MAGA Project 2025 Republicans, doing Trump’s bidding and fulfilling their lifelong dreams to destroy the American social safety net, hide and obstruct, Arizona’s Congressional Democrats continue to bring up legislation to help the people and call attention to Republican cruelty.
Representative-Elect Adelita Grijalva, who is still not being sworn in because House Speaker and Christian Hypocrite Mike Johnson is putting the protection of pedophiles over serving Arizonans, posted:
The House has gone dark and the @GOP has been on vacation for 40 days. No talks to end the shutdown. No progress on a long-term budget. No action to protect health premium tax credits. Millions are on the brink of losing food assistance. Johnson, it’s time to get to work.”
In a social media post, Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego wrote:
“I’m ready to vote today to keep SNAP running. The bills are written. They have the support to pass.
But Republican leadership is blocking them from getting a vote because they’d rather use hunger as a bargaining chip.”
Senator Mark Kelly blasted Trump for being overseas rather than deal with the shutdown he and his Project 2025 allies created, conveying:
“While on a trip overseas, Trump is choosing to withhold these benefits and hurt families who rely on SNAP to keep food on the table. He should be working with us to reopen the government and keep health care costs from spiking.”
He also echoed Senator Gallego in a press release, writing:
“I’m here in Washington working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to make sure Arizonans keep getting the SNAP benefits they rely on to put food on the table. To actually get this done, President Trump and congressional Republicans need to come to the table. Arizonans are counting on us.”
In a social media video, Representative Yassamin Ansari again called out the Project 2025 MAGA Republicans desire to inflict pain on vulnerable Americans, including millions of children, saying:
“It’s day 29 of the Trump Republican government shut down. Donald Trump’s is in Asia. Republicans are still on vacation, and people are struggling. This Saturday, November 1, people, millions of people across this country are going to lose access staff to SNAP and food assistance which is going to be a disaster. That includes one million people in Arizona, including 367,000 children who won’t be able to afford food and have food on the table. This is all because Donald Trump are Republicans are using food assistance as leverage. They want to be cruel. They are intentionally trying to withhold these funds and actively withhold these funds in order to make people suffer and Democrats aren’t standing for it. I’m so grateful there is a lawsuit right now that Democratic Attorney Generals across the country have put forward to force the Trump Administration to release the six billion dollars in contingency funds that are available for food assistance. In congress, we’ve introduced legislation to fight back against this, and we will continue to do everything we can because this fight is not just about health care. We know that 24 million Americans will see their health insurance premiums go up. We know that 50,000, will die in this country if Republicans continue to refuse to negotiate to fix the health care crisis. And now we have a food crisis on our hands and we will do everything in our power to protect this country and to make sure people can afford food.”
