While Musk/Trump/Vance Destroy the Country, Republicans Act Like the Characters from The Twilight Zone’s “It’s a Good Life”

From Terence Kawaja

While the Musk/Trump/Vance Central Committee are busy destroying the country through tariffs on allies that are raising prices for Americans, coddling Authoritarian Dictators like Putin, holding funds for Head Start, food for the poor, clean energy programs, roads and bridges, and scientific research, indiscriminate mass firings of public servants in vital government services like Social Security, Foreign Aid, Education, Law Enforcement, and Pandemic Awareness, Republicans in Congress and across the country are acting like the characters from The Twilight Zone’s “It’s a Good Life.”

For those who may not remember, “It’s a Good Life” starring future Lost in Space and Babylon 5 star Billy Mumy centers around a child ‘monster,’ played by Mumy, who has destroyed everything around his small town of Peaksville, and through psychic powers, controls the remaining adults in the area who have to do his bidding or face oblivion in the cornfield or worse.

Please click here to watch a clip of the show where the Mumy character, six year old Anthony Fremont, turns one man who wants to rise against him into a Jack in the Box before his father asks his son to mercifully send the man into the cornfield. Afterward, the child causes a snow storm that wrecks the towns farm crops.

After the murder of the man and the snow storm, the adults/supporting characters are too afraid to challenge the boy, continually saying things like “It’s good that you’re making it snow Anthony. It’s real good. Tomorrow, it’s going to be a real good day.”

They even made a sequel to the show in a modern Twilight Zone episode featuring an adult Mumy and his real life daughter.

Several Republicans, the ones who are not MAGA reality is what we say zealots, are acting like the scared townspeople in “It’s a Good Life.”

As Vanity Fair has recently reported, several Republicans in Congress “Are scared shitless about death threats and Getaspho like stuff” from Musk/Trump/Vance retribution.

They do not want to be turned into the political jack in the box or consigned to public service oblivion.

That is why they have folded in supporting unqualified cabinet choices like Bondi, Hegseth, Patel, Kennedy, and Gabbard.

That is why they parrot Musk/Trump/Vance/Putin talking points on Zelensky and Ukraine, calling them the invaders and obstacles to peace when they are not.

According to Vanity Fair, January 6 affected these Republicans in that they realized Trump did not mind sicking the mob on them if they did not tow the line in the future.

Instead of fighting to make sure Trump did not come back, they sounded like the townspeople from Peaksville in “It’s a Good Life.”

These frightened people are not far from sounding like:

“It’s good you fired all those weather people who could tell us when the tornadoes are coming, Donald.”

“It’s good you put a communications blackout on all the national health organizations so we can not track the spread of measles and bird flu.”

“It’s good you think Putin can be trusted, Mr. President.”

“It’s good you put those tariffs on Canada and Mexico. We don’t mind paying the extra cash on eggs and cars.”

Just look at Republican wimp Lindsey Graham who praised Zelensky, calling him “the ally I have been waiting fof all my life” (click on about 55-56 minutes into the video) when they were together in Munich and then turned on him on a dime after Trump and Vance ambushed the Ukranian leader in the Oval Office last week, suggesting that he resign.

Maybe Graham still has memories of being ambushed at an airport by MAGA zealots after saying what Trump did on January 6 was bad and life under Biden would not be catastrophic.

Do readers think Lindsey Graham says to Donald Trump, “It’s good you like Putin sir. That Zelensky is bad. It’s a Good Life now that you’re back in the White House.”

To be fair, I am not the first writer to see this analogy. Please click here to read this 2020 commentary from Nathan Rabin. I found it when researching for this article.
