Az Secretary of State has posted the official list of candidates interested in running for the CD 7 seat which has been vacant since the death of Congressman Raul Grijalva (D) on March 13, 2025. The deadline for filing nomination petitions was April 14 at 5 p.m. A total of 27 citizens filed statements of interest to run, but the ones below filed petitions.
Democrats:
–Deja Foxx
–Adelita Grijalva, oldest daughter of Raul, former District 5 Pima County Supervisor & on the Tucson Unified School District Governing Bd.
–Patrick Harris Sr.
–Daniel Hernandez Jr., former State House Rep. in LD 2 and on Sunnyside School District Governing Bd., ran for CD 6 in August 2022 Dem primary. His sisters are LD 20 House Rep. Alma Hernandez and LD 21 Rep. Consuelo Hernandez
–Jose Malvido, Jr.
Green Party:
–Gary Swing (write-in candidate)
Libertarians:
–Andy Fernandez Jr. (write-in candidate)
No Labels Party:
–Richard Grayson (write-in candidate)
Republicans:
–Daniel Butierez, Sr., ran for CD 7 in Nov. 2024 General Election
–Jorge Rivas
–Jimmy Rodriguez
These D and R candidates will face off on July 15, 2025 in their respective special primaries. Then the D, G, L, N, & R candidates face each other in the special General Election on Sept. 23, 2025.
