Worst Person in Arizona, AZ Rep. John Kavanagh, Tries to Whip Up Scottsdale Bigots Against Afghan Refugees

In his latest bid to be the worst person in Arizona, AZ Rep. John Kavanagh tweeted a video of himself trying to stir up his bigoted followers against Afghan refugees being resettled in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Kavanagh claimed that the refugees housed at an undisclosed hotel “may not have been properly vetted” based solely upon a hit-piece by the Center for Immigration Studies, the go-to ‘think tank’ for the anti-immigrant crowd, associated with Stephen Miller and the odious and immoral Trump immigration policies, and evaluated as clearly biased by the Southern Poverty Law Center, having a “decades-long history of circulating racist writers, while also associating with white nationalists.”

Kavanagh implies that these refugees were moved off a “secure military base” and that for “sudden” mysterious and unknown reasons the “base wanted them removed”, and that “security precautions to protect the community” from the refugees might be needed. He is clearly trying to imply that these people posed such a danger that the military was afraid to house them. He further fans the flames of suspicion saying that these refugees are being “dumped” on an unsuspecting community and come from a country “currently under the control of a terrorist group”, clearly implying that these refugees from the Taliban terrorists may be terrorists themselves.

Kavanagh then claims that these refugees will “overburden our schools with students who can’t even speak English” in a system that is “currently short of teachers because of COVID”. Well, John, just who’s fault might it be that our schools are so chronically under-resourced that they might have any difficulty accomodating these children’s educational needs and can’t retain teachers because of COVID concerns? I think we all know the answer to that rhetorical question, even as we face an AZGOP caucus intent on driving us to the brink of an #AZEducationCliff which threatens to slash 15% of the budgets of our public schools.

He says “they are already roaming the community” and “we don’t know what their backgrounds are” as if they were dangerous predators set loose in a public park. And this is a lie: the State Department HAS done a thorough vetting of these refugees. We know who they are. They are not a threat to our communities, they are an asset as they embark on new lives in America. They are refugees from a brutal and murderous regime that Trump contrived to make a separate peace with, abandoning our many allies to their tender mercies, and leaving President Biden to lead a super-human effort to stage the largest rescue airlift in human history to rescue these people.

Kavanaugh then claims that there will be “no security by the Federal Government, who placed these people here,” implying and assuming that security is needed to protect against them, even as he tries to whip up his constituents against these refugees: if anything, security is needed to protect these refugees from bigoted, know-nothings like Kavanagh and his followers.

Kavanagh then slyly says that he “suspects” that there will be “protests against this threat to our community”, clearly calling for and hoping there to be such protests for him to lead and exploit for political gain.

It’s vile, baseless, xenophobic, anti-Muslim bigotry and fear-mongering aimed at utterly innocent refugees, many of whom sacrificed their safety to help America’s armed forces.

Shame on you, John. I know for a fact you will read this since you are a frequent commenter.

You, Rep. John Kavanagh, are despicable. And you certainly qualify as today’s worst person in Arizona, which, given the competition from the bevy of criminals, cultists, fascists, traitors, and opportunists in the AZGOP today, is quite a feat. You should publicly apologize to the innocent refugees you have baselessly smeared and directed your bigotted mob to attack.

  1. Nobody tell Troll Boy, but “AFGHAN REFUGEES START THEIR STUDIES AT ASU”, https://www.statepress.com/article/2022/01/afghan-refugees-to-start-studies

In mid-December, around 60 women from Afghanistan arrived in Phoenix to continue their studies at ASU after fleeing their homeland due to the Taliban taking over the region in August.

Starting in the Spring 2022 semester, most of the women have begun studying at ASU to restart their studies, which they began at the Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Most of the women will be taking classes through Global Launch courses to help improve their English and to learn about the degree programs ASU offers before taking general studies classes in future semesters. Some of the students are also starting regular courses this spring, said Erin Tamayo, the coordinator of the AUW Afghan Student Program and an associate global educator at Global Launch.

Global Launch is partnering directly with these students to set them up for success at ASU in their studies and lives in Arizona, Tamayo said.

“Each of them is an individual with different needs, aspirations, goals and visions for the future,” Tamayo said. “This has really been a key in our work as we aim to guide these goals and aspirations as individual students.”

Since all of these women were students at AUW, they are working with ASU to determine if they can transfer credits from that University, as some of the women were already juniors there, said Pamela DeLargy, executive director of Education for Humanity.

“Through no fault of their own, their education was interrupted and we want them to just be able to continue and have a career, like any other young woman in the world,” DeLargy said.

  2. If someone gets hurt because they acted on John Kavanagh’s video is that stochastic terrorism and can he be charged with a crime?

Please donate to RAICESTEXAS dot org in honor of Arizona rep John Kavanagh.

  3. We need more security to keep, retired government hacks from New Jersey, out of Arizona. They are the real danger. Then they are teaching Law Enforcement when they totally ignore the rule of law? See what happens when we let them in?!?!?

  4. I’ve thought a few derogatory things about Johnny Blog Jester, but I never accused him of, nor expected him, to be a coward. But the fact he hasn’t even tried to defend or justify himself with his characteristic logical fallacies, blatant falsehoods and “whataboutisms” really surprises me. I guess I might have to conclude that on top of all his other flaws, he might be a coward, as well.

    • Funny how the “good Representative” loves to come & troll yet we don’t see him crowing about his legislation to limit First Amendment rights regarding recording cops (a.k.a. public servants) or his legislation requiring parental permission to for students to participate in LGBTQ clubs.

You’re right Michael. The “good Representative” lacks the courage to come here and defend his professed convictions. Which does make him a yellow-bellied coward.

  5. Danielle Pletka, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, writes about what REAL Americans do for war refugees, “Despite everything, Americans are stepping up to help Afghan refugees”, https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/01/27/virginia-neighbors-aid-afghan-refugee-family/

    (excerpt)

There are hundreds, probably thousands, of Americans helping such refugees — inviting them in, feeding them, helping them orient, driving them, doing what they can.

Here’s my story: After spending a bunch of cash online, I realized this family was going to need more help. I’m not much of a neighborhood association type, but I used our local email group to reach out to my wider community. I explained the situation and the family‘s needs, and I asked people to pitch in what they could.

It took only moments, literally. Emails flooded in. Sheets, blankets, pots, pans, mirrors, rice, a bike, mattresses, couches, clothes, shoes — you name it, the offers piled into my inbox. My front door was overflowing with generous drop-offs, new and sometimes lightly used. A few neighbors went out and shopped, texting from Walmart to ask about sizes. Others ordered online and sent things to my home addressed to “Afghan Family.” My husband and kids joined me in making deliveries.

[We] are, as the papers keep telling us, more divided than ever before. But guess what? Americans are wonderful, and it’s not just my neighbors and colleagues. They’re generous, they’re kind, they’re selfless. Are we, here near the nation’s capital, better off than many? Yep. But I know from the relief agencies I’m talking to that it’s not wealth that’s a factor in so much generosity. It’s character.

My small group of Afghans is only one family. Ours is only one small gesture. But wow, people are just so very good. It warms your heart.

-John Kavanagh lacks character and compassion and generosity. He is not a good person.

  6. Reminder: Troll Boy trolled a number of comments about the Afghanistan exit and what a disaster it was for the Afghan people. The Biden administration had the largest and most successful evacuation of refugees in a withdrawal from a failed war in U.S. history. Now Troll Boy wants to make Afghan resettlement in the U.S. a disaster for them because he is a racist and a bigot. He is the ugly American. I’ll bet he said the same thing about the Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees resettled in the U.S. after the disastrous failed war in Vietnam. My church welcomed them and provided them with assistance adjusting to life in the U.S. They became our friends and neighbors. America at its best.

    • Another chance to feed the algorithm!

If I post enough about RAICES next to lil’ Johnny’s name, eventually RAICES will show up in web searches for Kavanagh.

I’m not going the full Santorum, that’s tempting, and I may do that sometime.

But anyway, dinnertime my sweet algorithm…

Please donate to RAICESTEXAS dot org.

RAICES provides free or low cost legal services to immigrants.

Please donate In Honor of Arizona Rep John Kavanagh.

Someday, I hope to enter John Kavanagh’s name into Google and have it ask “Did you want to donate to RAICES?”.

        • I made the mistake of actually watching John Kavanagh (RAICES) video.

I try not to do that, because the algorithm’s count views and then promote the garbage.

Wow, the lying, the hate, the fear mongering, the call to violence (because that’s exactly what it is) over refugees (for more on refugees see: bible/Jesus/you’re going to hell if you don’t accept them).

What a hateful little man and embarassment to Arizona. And to human beings.
