Romney calls himself a "Lifetime Member" of the NRA, even though he joined in 2007. Liar? No. Here's how you too can become a Lifetime Member — the proper term is "Life Member" — starting today, for a mere one thousand bucks. From the NRA website:
I'm not digging up any new info here. On Romney's Setting the Record Straight website, it says:
Governor Romney purchased a life membership in the NRA. [Critics] point out that Romney has not been an NRA member his whole life and attempt to paint it as a lie. But "Life Membership" is the name of the membership. Romney never claimed to have been a member his whole life. They are perhaps confusing it with Romney's claim to have been a lifelong hunter – which is an accurate claim, although it mostly consisted of Romney hunting small game as a youth.
Ah. I see. So Romney's claim of lifetime NRA membership is merely deceptive, not a lie, as is calling himself a "lifelong hunter" because he shot a few varmints when he was a kid. The man is as honest as the day is long (in Alaska during December).
