RNC axes Phoenix for 2016 Convention site

Great news! The RNC has axed Phoenix and Columbus, Ohio from its list of 2016 Convention sites. Sheldon Adelson’s Sands Corp. Venetian in Las Vegas remains in the running for the “Sheldon Primary.”  GOP Trims Convention Site List to Six:

republican_logo_pole-dancing-stripperThe Republican National Committee announced Wednesday that it has narrowed its list of possible 2016 convention cities to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City and Las Vegas. Phoenix and Columbus have been removed from consideration.

“The eyes of the world will be on the RNC and our host city in the summer of 2016,” said RNC Site Selection Committee Chair Enid Mickelsen. “And these six cities have shown they have what it takes to move forward.”

RNC staff will now spend the next two months visiting the remaining contenders to conduct research on venue availability, media workspace, hotel capacity, and financing. The RNC will further narrow the field sometime in mid-May. A full RNC delegation will make official visits to the remaining cities after the second round of eliminations.

Over the summer, more cuts will take place as the RNC negotiates with the finalists, and a winner will be chosen by the full RNC governing body by late summer or early fall.
