In the waning weeks of the GOP primary for governor, Doug Ducey made a habit out of ducking debates with his opponents to avoid giving them any opportunity to confront him directly on the issues, and to avoid making any gaffes. Opponents question recent Ducey debate absences.
Dicey Ducey prefers to let Sean Noble from the “Kochtopus” dark money network behind his campaign do his dirty work for him through false or misleading television ads.
Now Dicey Ducey is ducking debates again. The Pinal Partnership debate in Coolidge on September 4th had to be cancelled because Dicey Ducey ducked the debate.

Press release from the Fred DuVal campaign:
Debate Ducking Doug Strikes Again
Phoenix, AZ — The campaign of business and education leader Fred DuVal released the following statement today regarding Doug Ducey’s withdrawal from the Pinal Partnership debate in Coolidge on September 4th.
“Doug Ducey agreed to the Pinal Partnership debate before the beginning of the general election, but just two days after the primary he ducked out, forcing organizers to cancel the event,” said Campaign Manager Bill Scheel. “This follows a trend of debate-ducking and last-minute cancellations from the last days of the primary election.” [Opponents question recent Ducey debate absences, Arizona Republic, 8/20/14]
“Arizonans deserve an election based on the issues facing our state, but unfortunately, it looks like Doug Ducey is more interested in hiding behind the well-funded smear campaigns of his out-of-state friends than being honest or transparent with people about why he refuses to reverse his stance on underfunding our schools or disclose the details of his shady business practices.”

As far as it went DuVal sounded good, but it takes more than one plank to build a platform. Education support is for the FUTURE economy, what is the plan to build the economy NOW? Republicans seem to only know how to mouth party politics, duck and weave, and negative commentary. Let’s have SPECIFIC ideas to address current problems.
There is no surprise here…when you are leading, there is nothing to be gained from a debate. You can only lose ground by participating.
