Today’s anti-Gatewood goes to . . . (some) Small Business Owners

September 2, 2011

by David Safier [Note: While the Gatewood goes to people who would make Henry Gatewood, the embezzling banker from John Ford's 1939 "Stagecoach" proud, the anti-Gatewood goes to those stand Gatewood's maxims on their head and prefer honesty over self-serving lies and thievery.] Today's anti-Gatewood goes to small business owners who say, No, we're not

ALEC and the Arizona legislature: For-Profit Colleges

September 2, 2011

by David Safier This is a textbook case of how ALEC, corporations and Republican legislatures work together. For-profit colleges have been scamming students and taxpayers for years. Students are often left with huge loans to pay off after receiving near-worthless education, while the colleges get 90% of their revenues from federal student grants and loans.

September 2, 2011

Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Greg Stanton, Democratic candidate for mayor of Phoenix, has borrowed an idea from The Man With a Plan: Jonathan Rothschild for Mayor of Tucson, who posted his "180 day work plan for Tucson" – what he would do in his first 180 days as Mayor of Tucson. You can read it yourself on his website.  GREG STANTON

Redistricting Information Session – Wednesday, September 7

September 2, 2011

Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Announcement: No doubt you've read the headlines.  Arizona's Independent Redistricting Commission is under attack from some who wish it wasn't independent. In fact, some folks seem to want a Commission that bows to special interests rather than the people of Arizona. Eleven years ago, Arizona's voters made a different choice.  The voters

September 2, 2011

Updated SWAG Re: Early Filers For 2012

September 2, 2011

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

AZFlag Time for an update to the "Silly Wild Ass Guess" (SWAG) list of who is running for office in 2012. The district maps have not even been drawn, yet alone litigated in court, but there are a number of campaign committees for 2012 based upon current legislative districts.

As you might expect, this list is going to be subject to change when new districts have been established by the AIRC. And as always, candidates will come and go.

I will periodically update the list. You can follow along at home at the Arizona Secretary of State's web site Campaign Finance Search – Candidates.

Filer ID # beginning "2012" except where indicated (*). Some committees are exploratory committees.
