Fish tacos at Taco Fish!

David Safier

by David Safier A tip of the hat and the tastebuds to Adam Borowitz on The Range for his recommendation of Taco Fish, a cart on Grant just to the west of 6th Ave, south side of the street. It shares a dirt lot with a Caribbean food cart which I haven't tried. Look for … Read more

Joe, Jr. – The $5 million dollar man

AZ BlueMeanie

Posted by AzBlueMeanie: "Joe, Jr.," Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, claims the effects of cross-border smuggling are "far worse" in his county than in Arizona's border counties, and that's why his county merits $5 million in special border-security funding from the Legislature. The fact that Joe, Jr. is the darling of the anti-immigrant hate mongers … Read more

Reminder: Mayors Against Illegal Guns event Monday downtown

David Safier

by David Safier

I've been told the turnout for this event is growing:

Mayors Against Illegal Guns comes to TUCSON
On the National Drive to Fix Gun Checks
www.FixGunChecks.org

Monday, March 28th, 1pm, 101 N. Stone Ave: Jacome Plaza, outside the main library.

Lots of people will be featured, including Dr. Peter Rhee (Chief of Trauma, UMC), Sen. Dennis DeConcini, Tom Volgy, Terry Goddard, Clarence Dupnik, Tony Estrada and Karin Uhlich. Local religious leaders Pastor David Wilkinson (St Francis in the Foothills) and Rev. Jan Flaaten (Arizona Ecumenical Council) are also on the progam.

Also in attendance  will be Patricia Maisch, who, on January 8, managed to get the second magazine of bullets away from Jared Loughner before he could reload, Ross Zimmerman, father of slain Giffords aide Gabe Zimmerman and Omar Samaha, whose sister Reema was killed at Virginia Tech.

Though Arizona's Republican legislators and governor are hellbent on taking our state in the wrong direction on gun regulation, progress is being made on the national level, and this Mayors group is at the center of what's happening.

For more information, read the Press Release from Mayors Against Illegal Guns after the jump.

No MSM coverage of “Precious Knowledge” screening

David Safier

by David Safier I've been waiting to see if any local press or TV news program would cover the Thursday screening of "Precious Knowledge," the documentary about TUSD's Mexican American Studies program. After reading the Sunday Star and searching Google, I've decided the screening was a media non-event. So far as I know, Mari Herreras … Read more

By Craig McDermott, cross-posted from Random Musings – The big news at the legislature this week didn't concern pending legislation, it concerned possible pending charges against Sen.
