Times are interesting in Maricopa County Government circles these days as MAGA-Trumpist fanatic County Recorder Justin Heap is tussling with the Republican dominant Board of Supervisors over who has control over the July primary elections in the county.
A court proceeding that could decide the issue convened on June 15.
Heap and his legal counsel, supplied by the resident Judenrat/Joseph Goebbels of the Trump Regime, Stephen Miller, through his America First Legal Foundation, want the power to control the elections, including naming the location of early voting centers and who will be in charge of tabulating the ballots.
Apparently, they also want to take over County Attorney Rachel Mitchell’s duties on election matters.
Mitchell obviously objects to this intrusion on her legal turf.
Remember, when these people were all on the same side in the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
Added to that, Heap and his office are now under investigation for the removal of a Maricopa Ballot Scanner last March.
Reacting to what is happening with Heap and the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, Arizona Secretary of State and former Maricopa County Recorder, Adrian Fontes, told reporters at KTAR:
“The number one job of elections officials, as I see it, is to make sure that we do everything we can to ensure that folks are confident in our election processes…I think before we really pass judgment, we got to figure out exactly what the function of that particular scanner was, if it didn’t have anything to do with elections, which is possible. Then perhaps this is completely innocuous, and it’s no big deal, but if it did then the questions become why were they moving it? Why were these people moving it and I hope that a thorough investigation will follow because cooler heads have to prevail we owe it to the voting public in Arizona to continue to bolster the confidence that they should have because of all the lies and misinformation that surround this Activity of our governance at the state and local level.”
On the court battle between Heap and the Maricopa Board of Supervisors, Secretary Fontes offered:
“As the Secretary of State, we are not involved in that. We believe that cooler heads will prevail. We are not taking sides. This is an intra-county issue between the recorder and the board, and remember… I think you guys remember when I was the county recorder, I had my own beef with the board once in a while. But we ended up getting along and figuring things out, and we did really well by the voters, and I think that’s what’s critical here. The focus has to be on what are the services we’re providing for the voters, or we’re making sure that we can show that we’re doing good work. And so far, Maricopa County has done a good job at that, and I hope that that continues under the current administration.”
The Secretary, after traveling around the state and reaching out to constituents, is also, after revelations that the Trump Fascist Regime wants the United States Postal Service to control which states will get mail-in ballots delivered to their residents, is off to Washington D.C. to discuss this gross, unconstitutional move by the Aspiring Duce.
Before boarding his plane, Mr. Fontes released a video on social media where he said:
“I will be meeting with some officials, some folks in the United States Senate, and some other folks to try to make sure that the federal government stays out of Arizona’s elections. We’re working on some cybersecurity issues, putting in the work, getting around the country, and making sure that Arizona’s elections are solid for you.”
