Ahhh, the “Birther” Queen’s bill dies in the Senate

The "Birther" Queen, Rep. Judy Burges (R-Skull Valley), was able to convince a majority of Republicans in the House to vote for her "birther" bill, but her bill died in the Senate without a vote on Thursday night. Birther measure dies from lack of support | eastvalleytribune.com:

Barack Obama won’t be required to produce his birth certificate for Arizona officials if he decides to run for reelection.

Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley, introduced the measure in the wake of controversy on whether the president is a “natural born citizen” of the United States, as required by the U.S. Constitution.

Burges said the measure is not necessarily about Obama. But she admitted she doubts he was born in Hawaii as he claims, or that he can show he is a U.S. citizen.

“With what’s happening throughout the world, we need to make sure that our candidates are certifiable,” she said.

Oh honey, you are certifiable alright, you are chock full o' nuts.

Burges said she wants a president’s citizenship — and, as she sees it, loyalty — to be clear. “We want to make sure that we have candidates that are going to stand up for the United States of America.”

This coming from a woman who voted for several bills premised on the discredited secessionist "nullification" theory of the "Tenther" movement asserting "states rights" like a good John Bircher.

Sen. Jack Harper wanted in on this act as well. He allowed Burges' "birther" amendment to be tacked onto one of his bills in the Senate.

Harper supported the change and lobbied his GOP colleagues to approve the House version. He said, though, it’s not a partisan thing.

“It’s not about Barack Obama,” Harper said. “He has shown his birth certificates and birth announcements, from the time he was born, in Hawaii newspapers.”

What it is about, Harper said, is “states’ rights.”

Why doesn't the Republican Party simply change its name to the John Birch Society and concede the fact that the party has been completely overrun by its wingnut fringe?

Adding insult to injury, or doubling the fun, as the case may be, the state of Hawaii has voted to give the "birthers" the middle finger as well. Hawaii Legislature Votes to Ignore Birther Requests:

Hawaii's state Legislature has had enough of the birthers. It has passed a law that would allow state officials to ignore repeated requests for President Barack Obama's original birth certificate.

We all have had enough of the birthers, thank you very much.

During the presidential campaign, then Sen. Obama released a copy of a certificate of live birth, a legal document that shows he was indeed born in the U.S.

In August 2008, FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan political group, issued a statement declaring that its staffers had "seen, touched, examined, and photographed" the original birth certificate and determined it was indeed real.

Official statements by Chiyome Fukino, the director of Hawaii's State Department of Health, haven't helped either. Despite multiple public announcements that she had seen the president's "original vital records," the birther controversy has continued.

This is really not about the birth certificate. Birthers don't want the birth certificate. This is about an old tried and true tactic of the right to question the legitimacy, the loyalty and the "Americaness" of Democratic presidents because, don't you know after all, only conservatives are true Americans and possess the god-given entitlement to lord over the rest of us. Just ask any member of The Family religious cult.
