Alec Holds 2-day Voter Suppression “Academy” with Dark Money Group

ALEC held another two-day voter suppression “academy” with the dark money group “Honest Elections Project” proceeding its December 1-3, 2021, meeting, according to the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD).

CMD obtained an invitation to the secretive, anti-voter cabal, according to , research director for CMD. ALEC is a forum where corporate lobbyists and state legislators vote as equals on ‘model bills’ to change our rights that often benefit the corporations’ bottom line at public expense.

The invitation for an “Honest Elections Academy Part Two,” was sent to ALEC lawmakers and held on November 29 and 30 before the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)’s 2021 States and Nation Policy Summit.

Ex-Senate Leader, Republican Karen Fann

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann (R), ALEC’s incoming national chair and ringleader of Arizona’s controversial 2020 election “audit” circus. Republicans are aggressively using their political advantage in the states to rig highly skewed maps that will give them a majority in the U.S. House and lock in control over state legislatures, including Arizona’s.

The first academy held before ALEC’s Annual Meeting over the summer referred to in the invitation was first reported on by CMD as featuring “a veritable who’s who of the right-wing leaders behind this year’s disinformation campaign about voter fraud and assaults on voting rights across the country.”

The invitation states that “Over the summer, we discussed best practices for securing a state’s elections. Now, on November 29 and 30, we’ll work with you on how to put these proven methods into practice, from direct litigation strategies to workshops with leading election experts, to messaging techniques.”

ALEC’s States and Nation Policy Summit also held a secret elections meeting on December 1, which CMD first reported on as part of its coverage of the agenda.

Although the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) claims not to work on elections, it had the US Constitutions and elections squarely in its crosshairs when it launched its annual States and Nation Policy Summit at a four-star hotel in San Diego, according to documents obtained by CMD.

Legislators who wanted to get up to speed on ALEC‘s latest plans to limit voting, rig election districts to favor Republicans, and conduct fake 2020 election “audits” attended a secret “Process Working Group” meeting and hear from a who’s who of GOP and pro-Trump election strategists.

Neither the Process Working Group nor a simultaneous “Academy” on convening a constitutional convention to consider numerous right-wing amendments were posted in any of ALEC’s publicly available materials on its policy summit.

Secret Elections Meeting

The president of ALEC’s advocacy arm, ALEC Action, took the stage with insurrectionist attorney Cleta Mitchell to introduce the elections session. Mitchell lost her prestigious law firm position after joining Trump on a phone call pressuring Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” 11,000 more Trump votes. She now works alongside Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff facing scrutiny from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, at the Conservative Partnership Institute, heading up its “Election Integrity Network.”
