Anti-Masker Recall of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero Fails, To No One’s Surprise

Update to Anti-Mask COVID-Deniers File Recall Petition Against Tucson Mayor Regina Romero (excerpt):

The only appropriate response if you are approached by someone with this recall petition is “Fuck off!” We are not going to waste any time and money on a COVID-denier recall election during a deadly pandemic. Even if these losers did manage to get a recall election, they are going to get crushed by Tucson’s Democratic voters, and everyone including them knows it. So what is the point? Other than these losers are desperately seeking public attention for their “fringe” wingnut ravings.

The Tucson Weekly used to run an annual “get out of town” feature for people like this in our community. Maybe Jim Nintzel should revive this feature for these COVID-deniers. They most definitely should “get out of town.”

Just as I predicted, these reckless and irresponsible anti-masker “fringe” wingnuts failed to collect enough signatures for a recall election before the deadline. No surprise. Effort to recall Tucson mayor fails to collect enough signatures:

The effort to recall Tucson Mayor Regina Romero has ended after the committee failed to collect enough valid signatures for the petition, the city clerk said Monday.

The Recall Regina 2020 Committee that officially began its recall effort in October, needed 24,710 signatures by Feb. 27 to proceed to the verification phase of the petition process. After the initial tabulation, the number of signatures submitted by the committee was 24,153.

“This does not meet the requirements to proceed to the verification phase and therefore, pursuant to Tucson Code 12-167, the city clerk has issued the committee a Receipt of Insufficiency, which ends this recall petition,” city officials said.

Initiated by residents Joseph Morgan, Dawn Polotto and Alexander McKenna, the petition was a result of what they called “Romero’s failure to fulfill her duties as the Mayor of Tucson.”

Morgan, the lead organizer, was also in attendance during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, calling it a “great day in America.”

Fuck off, traitor.

The group was responsible for several protests around Tucson over the past several months, including a protest in support of funding for law enforcement as well as a “Mask Less” protest in opposition of the city’s face mask mandate, which was held outside of Romero’s house.

“Mayor Romero answers to all of the residents of Tucson, who have elected her with strong majorities in every city election she has run in,” said a statement from the mayor’s office.

“This recall effort was no more than a fringe group with unvalidated signatures attempting to overturn the will of the majority of Tucsonans. Nevertheless, she will continue her tireless work to build a more strong, sustainable, and resilient city for all Tucsonans, regardless of whether they voted for her or not.”

In reaction to the petition failure, Morgan said this in a Facebook post Saturday:

“We may have come up short of this goal, but our voice was heard and will continue to be heard. We have only just begun.”

No, you traitor. Pack up your shit, and get out of town!

  1. At least we put our names and effort out there, and aren’t hiding behind a mask. What are you, the AZ Blue Meanie, afraid of?

  2. This isn’t even “journalism” and not worth donating my last $5.00. At best this is nothing more than a “Troll” who can’t use their real name because these words are not actually something they would say in-person. Using “fear” as an excuse to hide who you really are radiates your true self. Writing this piece only solidifies that the Romero Supporters, “bees”, realized how close their “queen” was to falling out the hive. These Recall Supporters had a closer chance of making it happen than many people gave them credit for. That is a fact, not opinion.

    • “These words are not actually something they would say in-person.” Au contraire, lady. I am being restrained in this post compared to what I would say about your group in person.

  3. It’s a damn shame that it failed! She’s a little girl sitting in a big girl’s chair. Completely incompetent and dangerous.
