HCR 2060, the ballot measure that if voters approve it this November, would make crossing the Arizona Southern Border a state as well as federal crime with state judges having deportation powers passed the State House of Representatives today with only Republican votes.
MAGA Republicans were so scared of the public outcry of what they were doing that they closed access to the gallery from the people who gathered for the event and were forced to protest in the House Lobby.
Suffice it to say, this judicial overreach, which is worded similarly to a Texas measure passed earlier, was met with united condemnation by most Democrats, including the Governor, Attorney General, and all members of the state legislative Democratic roster.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, reacting to both passage of HCR2060 and President Biden’s immigration executive order, said in a statement:
“I’ve said it before and I will say it again: HCR 2060 will hurt Arizona businesses, send jobs out of state, make it more difficult for law enforcement to do their jobs, and bust the state’s budget. It will not secure our border. Despite strong opposition from business leaders, border law enforcement, and bipartisan local leaders throughout the state, extremists in the legislature have chosen to prioritize their political agendas over finding real solutions.
“Throughout my time in office, I have listened to the needs of border law enforcement and have done everything in my power to support their efforts to maintain a safe, secure, and humane border, which is why we allocated nearly $100 million to border communities to help increase capacity and upgrade vital technology, and launched Operation SECURE to strengthen coordination and bolster resources with the Arizona National Guard and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. What’s clear from my conversations with law enforcement on the ground is that HCR 2060 is not the answer.
“While I continue to prioritize public safety and make sure we are doing everything we can to keep our communities safe, Arizona cannot continue cleaning up the federal government’s mess. Today’s Executive Order announced by the Biden Administration is a critical tool for curbing unlawful entry and upholding humanitarian protections. However, we need comprehensive solutions and congressional support to secure our border.
“Congress must do its job. Our border patrol agents, immigration judges, and support services need more resources to manage this crisis effectively. The bipartisan border agreement reached earlier this year provided a clear path forward with critical reforms and investments. Yet, partisan politics have derailed these necessary measures. Congress must put aside partisan politics and prioritize the safety and security of our nation. Congress needs to do its job and deliver the comprehensive immigration reform that our country desperately needs.”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes also commented, conveying:
“Further straining law enforcement resources while implementing a measure that could lead to racial profiling is not the answer to creating safer communities. HCR 2060 is a political distraction that will sow seeds of bias and fear without fixing the issues it claims to address.”
Arizona State Senator and Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Co-Chairperson Priya Sundareshan posted the below social statement on X.

Arizona Senate Democrats jointly released:
“Today, House Democrats stood united against hate and division. We made it crystal clear that HCR2060 is an unconstitutional mess and a costly unfunded mandate that, if it becomes law, will deepen our state’s deficit and bankrupt local governments in an effort to duplicate federal immigration efforts. It’s a measure that will encourage racial profiling and make our communities less safe. I’ve never been so proud of our caucus, who stood up for our state and for our economy and against hate, division and politicizing a humanitarian crisis.”
The two candidates vying to succeed Ruben Gallego in Arizona Congressional District Three also expressed their opposition to HCR 2060.

Republicans, despite the FUD John Government Checks Kavanagh tries to spread here, are scared. They screwed the pooch on Roe and they know it.
They have very little to run on that’s real.
The economy is good, employment is good, they had a border deal with Biden but convicted rapist and fraudster Donald J Trump had them back out so he can use the border in his campaign.
So, what? Is the border broken or not? Why did they back down if it’s a “crisis”?
This is just a BS scam to get their base to the polls, because they know their base is getting sick of their BS.
Overturn the ACA? Nope!
Lock her up? Nope!
Build a wall and Mexico will pay for it? Nope!
End mail in voting? Nope!
In fact, convicted rapist Donald J Trump is now asking people to mail in their ballots, because someone finally explained to him that HIS voters like to mail in their ballots.
Conservatives being censored/shadow banned? Nope. They own the top ten on every social media platform on any given day.
They go “boohoo we’re being censored wah wah wah” while on the number one cable news shows with millions of viewers. LOL!
Their base isn’t the ripest bunch of bananas, but they notice, eventually.
This latest BS is just them showing their fear, knowing their base is catching on, and they’re desperate to get their voters to the polls.
Clowns.
Anything Texas crooks like Abbott or Paxson dream up, Arizona Repubs will jump on the bandwagon no matter what it costs, how effective it is, or how mindless it is. Maybe Hoffman and Kern will get their heart’s desire and be incarcerated in a Texas prison
