It’s Not “Donald Loves Juan” Anymore, It’s “Donald Loves Vlad”

And Ciscomani’s Big Campaign Supporter is Killing Ukrainians

Oh, Juan, it’s so sad. About your unrequited love, that is. You did everything you could for President Trump. You made yourself into a liar by telling us you would do your best to protect Medicaid and Affordable Care Act subsidies last year, and then voted against both, just what Dearest Donnie wanted. You got his endorsement for the Sixth Congressional District race and posed for photos with him with a stupid, strained, grin on your face.

You said you thought bombing the hell out of Iran would help the Iranian people. They are still suffering, but to be fair, so are the rest of us, in a different way. Trump and his inner circle of so-called “advisors,” particularly his Secretary of Defense (or Testosterone), Pete Hegseth, apparently had no idea that the Iranian government could close the vital Strait of Hormuz, bringing Persian Gulf shipping to a sudden halt, although all real Middle East experts did. Fuel prices have skyrocketed and inflation is on the warpath. “Affordability” is a big campaign theme, but you and other Republicans have screwed things up so badly we can’t have affordability.

We’ve had inflation before, of course, but here’s where you (and your constituents, and all Americans) have been cast aside by your so-called friends. Vladimir Putin’s Russian army invaded Ukraine in 2022, expecting a victory in a matter of days, much like Trump promised us would occur in Iran. It’s been a long slog for both of them, especially Putin, whose army has been held at bay by the Ukranians. Those soldiers from a democratic republic are now carrying out successful long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries and the giant warehouses of the equivalent of Amazon, which must really bring the war home to the average Russian.

But the president of Russia has help. In a comically small attempt to show he cares about gas prices, Trump made a deal with Putin, whose Russia was supposed to be sanctioned from dealing with us, for about six million gallons of diesel fuel right away. Sounds like a lot—it’s not, it would only power US trucks and farm equipment for about a day and a half.

That strange arrangement paled, though, when a few days ago Trump officially waived most financial sanctions against Russia, undercutting the much-applauded passage of a bill sponsored by the late Senator Lindsay Graham, an ardent supporter of the president who died recently. Trump declined to enforce almost all the sanctions, showing us that he will even throw a dead friend “under the bus” if necessary.

And, why was giving Russia a big financial shot in the arm needed, when it will provide Putin with cash to fight on in the Ukraine? There have been many theories, but Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky may have nailed it. Per the Washington Post, “Trump simply has a fondness for autocrats and the uber-wealthy: [Zelensky said] ‘He speaks about it openly and loudly that he loves such people and he respects such people.’” But not the rest of us, obviously.

If so, Juan, he doesn’t have much time for you.

And what about your friend, Elon Musk, reputedly the richest man in the world, who’s pouring money (more than $500,000 to your campaign) into Republican candidates’ races? He makes a lot of his money through his Starlink satellite communications system, to which the Ukraine military subscribes. It uses the military version of Starlink to, among other things, deploy drones against incoming Russian missiles. In the past week Starlink has slowed service to the Ukraine, limiting its missile intercept crafts’ speed to 100 miles per hour. Sounds fast unless you’re trying to catch a missile headed for an apartment building.

Interviewer Piers Morgan asked Zelensky about Musk and Starlink:

“Piers Morgan: On Starlink, what’s your message to Elon Musk?
Zelensky: It’s a big mistake.
Morgan: People are dying because of his decision?
Zelensky: Of course, people will die.”

              And guess what?

Putin and Trump (with Musk cheering from the sidelines) draw ever closer, even as a brand new poll finds that 57 percent of Americans support Ukraine, with four percent for the Russians. Foreign affairs journalist David Rothkopf says “We were taught we won the Cold War. But today, the president of the United States openly serves the interests of Russia. We have become, in fact, in crucial economic and security matters, a satellite of Moscow.”

Juan, it’s abundantly clear that the Democrats, aided by your president’s misbegotten efforts, are going to take back control of the House of Representatives in the November 3 election and may also get a Senate majority. If you manage to eke out a victory, you’ll be a Republican back bencher. More likely, since yet another election prognosticator, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, has just ranked your seat as “leans Democrat”, toward challenger JoAnna Mendoza, you’ll be looking for work.

The president might look favorably upon a Republican who fought a valiant fight, but then again, it’s well known he hates losers. If you’re not on his blacklist, we think you would make an excellent US ambassador. We do have an embassy in Antarctica, don’t we?
