Arizona passes “birther” bill with an odd amendment

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

The tin-foil hat Birthers in the Arizona Senate passed the birther bill (with amendments) which is now on its way back to the House. Arizona Capitol Times » Senate passes modified ‘birther’ bill. The bill would make Arizona the first state to pass such legislation.

The Arizona Republic published an editorial today claiming Arizona doesn't want to be 'Birther State'. For most of us that's true. Not for the fools that Tea-Publicans elected to the Arizona legislature. Some 75% of Tea-Publicans in polls express suspicion about President Obama thanks to the relentless propaganda of conservative media. How mighty white of them.

The Arizona Republic laments:

Spare us. Arizona shouldn't be embarrassed by a goofy "birther" bill. We shouldn't be the punch line in the next round of national jokes.

This doesn't have to be the "Birther Legislature." Arizona doesn't have to be the "Birther State."

If there's not enough sober thinking in the Legislature, Gov. Jan Brewer can stop the nonsense. She has better and more important roles than becoming the "Birther Governor."

It's what in the amendments to the Birther bill that has caught the attention of observers. Nicole Belle at crooksandliars.com explains. Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction: AZ Birther Law Requires Candidates "To Describe Penis":

This is what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum:

They don't call Arizona the "meth lab of Democracy" for nothing — where else could a lack of foreskin prove citizenship?

The Arizona Senate formally passed the "Birther Bill" today, but not in its original version.

Apparently, requiring presidential candidates to provide a long-form birth certificate before allowing their names on the ballot in Arizona — despite it already being a federal requirement to run for president — was a bit too much for a few GOP lawmakers. So they made some amendments: if you can't find your birth certificate, and you have a penis, a document describing your lack (of) foreskin will suffice.

A circumcision certificate — a document given to the parents of a male Jewish child after his foreskin is snipped off during a circumcision ceremony — is not a legal document (see an example of one here) but if you have one, under the amended bill, it's apparently enough to prove you're a U.S. citizen and your name can be permitted on the ballot in Arizona.

Pulling out your penis in front of election officials, however, will not prove citizenship — and, in the worst case scenario, could get labeled a sex offender.

Do I really need to be the one to tell them that Muslims males get circumcised too? Oy. I guess we need to root out all those stealthy Scandinavians planning to run for president.

You have to laugh, if only to keep from pulling all your hair out in the face of such stupidity.

If this idiots bill makes it to the governor's desk, she should veto the damn thing. Rep. Carl Seel, the author of the bill, should be recalled.

UPDATE: The idiots passed this batshit-crazy bill and it is on its way to the governor. Arizona lawmakers OK requiring proof of citizenship to run for president. She has five days to sign it, veto it or do nothing and allow it to become law.

Makes you proud to be an Arizonan doesn't it? (dripping with sarcasm)

Here is the money quote from the Birther Queen herself, Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley:

"It's essential that we bring back the integrity to the office."

I'll leave it to Dr. Word to critique that sentence, but I am pretty sure "the integrity" is code for "white."

Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Phoenix, voted against the bill and said he was embarrassed by his fellow lawmakers. "Arizona is the first state to pass a birther bill. We look pretty much backward," Gallego said. "You might as well change Arizona to Alabama."

Note: Sen. Russell Pearce, making Arizona the Alabama of the West (my apologies to Alabama) 1-27-2010.
