Blake Masters’ Is Trump’s Choice for Senate

Update 6/3/22: Now that Trump has anointed Blake Masters as his choice for the Senate in Arizona, I decided to republish my first look at the candidate.

Trump’s choice is certainly interesting in itself: he chose Masters over Jim Lamon, who evidently committed a felony for Trump by forging a document claiming to be an official elector to the electoral college. Talk about ungrateful! I can only assume that billionaire Peter Thiel, who has already invested $13m in placing Masters in the Senate to do his bidding, was more generous to Trump than Lamon – who is a mere centi-millionaire – possibly could be.

Of course, much of the Lamon campaigns’ energy will now flow to Masters, breaking the rivalry to kiss Trump’s… ring. This makes it less likely that Mark Brnovich will be able to prevail against the Trump wannabe-nominees, no matter how much he abuses his current office to pander to his base, as the Trumpist vote will not be nearly as divided as it had been. In many ways, Trump’s choice is good news for Mark Kelly. Masters will be much easier to beat than Brnovich would have been, IMHO. And who knows, maybe the old guard of the AZGOP will still prevail and succeed in getting Brno the nomination… but I doubt it.

I strongly suspect that the top of the AZGOP ticket will be Lake (Governor), Masters (US Senate), and Fichem (SecState). As to which GOP nutcase grabs the AZAG nomination, I still don’t know, and Trump hasn’t made his preference known, and he has a diverse gaggle of loons to choose from ready and willing to put Trump above the rule of law.

If the AZGOP old guard gets its way, however, that list would be Taylor Robson or Salmon (Governor), Brnovich (US Senate), either Bolick or Ugenti-Rita (SecState), and Gould (SecState). Time will tell, but I sincerely doubt that the Republican establishment will be able to turn back the tide of Trumpism in Arizona this cycle. Putting a stake through Trump’s black heart and taking back the party will require Republicans to beat him in the ’24 Presidential nomination contest.

I suffered through 20 minutes of bog-standard Trumpist drivel (I do not recommend bothering to listen, but feel free to waste your time) to hear ANYTHING innovative about Blake Masters’ politics or strategy. It’s not there.

Here’s what #MoneyButlerBlake actually pitches as an ‘innovative’ campaign: Build the Wall! China’s rising and Biden’s a weak/naive/incompetent old fool! Our military is too woke! Silicon Valley is mean to racists and fascists! Public health measures are unconstitutional! Public education should be defunded! Progressivism is Bolshevism! Stop people from voting so much! Scary woke Antifa devils will put you in concentration camps if you don’t elect me!

Ugh. So far as I can tell, there is zero that is innovative, creative, analytical, or intelligent about Blake Masters’ bid to take on Mark Kelly, except for one true difference that is hardly innovative: Blake runs the ‘family office‘ of billionaire Peter Thiel. In other words, Blake has access to essentially unlimited wealth to spend on his race to capture the Arizona Senate seat. Once there, I have no doubt that #ButlerBlake would faithfully serve the interests of his feudal lord – and those like him – while feeding the aforementioned drivel to the peons.

Masters’ ‘innovative’ pitch to the GQP base is just a standard-issue heap of finely-tuned raw meat and offal.

It is #MoneyButlerBlake’s sotto voce pitch to the real powers of the rising American fascist/oligarchical movement that is his only real innovation: “I too will be a righteous soldier for Trumpism and the new fascism, but I’ll have more money to buy the election than anyone else. Brnovich and the others running are merely uppity peasants who can’t access as much real wealth as I can. I will serve the new American over-class as faithfully as I have Peter Thiel while deluding and appeasing the little people with fear and hatred of anyone less deserving than the ‘true Americans’: the God-fearing white male peasantry.”

And, hey, maybe #MoneyButlerBlake is spot on about the ‘innovation’ needed for his team to win? He clearly understands perfectly how political and financial power is acquired in a thoroughly corrupt neo-feudalist, fascist oligarchy like Russia (which is, of course, the secret model of a perfect society for America’s aspiring oligarch class who worship Trump and Putin): become a reliable and indispensable henchman of a current oligarch and use his connections and wealth to rise to become an oligarch yourself. But I hope he’s wrong, for all our sakes.
