Both Crime and Fentanyl Deaths Decline by Record Levels

The FBI revealed on Sept. 23, 2024 in their “Summary of Crime in the Nation” that violent crime fell by 3% and property crime by 2.4%.  Importantly murder dropped by 11.6% and rape by 9.4%.  These are the highest drops in 20 years.  Burglary is down by 7.6% but car theft is up.  Having someone steal your car is a pain, but it’s not as frightening as someone breaking into our house.  Shoplifting also increased but that could be because of our widening income gap and greedflation making prices out of reach for so many.  It may also reflect the reopening of many businesses after COVID.

Media and social media along with sales of doorbell cameras have hyped crime as they always do to create fear and get you to spend money.  But in fact violent crime has fallen in 2022 and 2023.  Every city with a population over 1 million was included in the data so it was not skewed by only rural data.  94.3% of the U.S. population was covered by these statistics. The America Rescue Plan passed by Biden gave $15 billion to state and local government to improve public safety. It’s working.

Fentanyl deaths in the U.S. are also decreasing.  In May 2024 the National Institutes of Health released figures showing that fentanyl deaths are down 3% for the first time. Cocaine and meth deaths went up.  The decline was not even.  Four states saw declines of 15% or more (NE, KS, IN, ME) but some states saw increases of 27% or more (AK, WA, OR).

October 1 it was reported that there seems to be a shortage of fentanyl on the street, and no one has yet figured out where the supply chain has been disrupted.  But fentanyl is not coming across the border in the backpacks of refugees escaping violence.  It’s coming in container ships, cargo vans, and the trunks of white American citizens, sometimes senior citizens making a few extra bucks because they cannot make it on their social security alone.  Don’t believe the propoganda you hear this election year.  Know the facts. Use your reason.
