For people (like this writer) who are wondering how Donald ‘I Killed Roe v Wade’ is competitive in the 2024 Presidential Race given his past behavior (which has resulted in two impeachments, 91 indictments, and being found liable for sexual assault and business fraud) and statements (‘poisoning the blood,’ taking bleach to combat COVID 19, and ‘there was good and bad on both sides’ for example) one also has to ask: how can there be so many people out there who are still buying this guy’s fecal matter.
This last week is no exception with outrageous statements and bizarre behavior.
For starters, Mr. ‘I enabled the January 6 Insurrectionists’ has the nerve to call the people who have been arrested and convicted of attacking the Nation’s Capitol “hostages.”
While no one should be surprised at this statement by Mr. ‘Liar in Chief,’ what makes this episode more appalling is leading Republican House Representatives like New York’s Elise Stefanik are parroting them and also not committing to supporting the certification of the 2024 Presidential Election.
Hopefully, she will not be in a position of power in 2025 to challenge the election results. Hopefully, she will no longer be in the House of Representatives.
Make no mistake. The people who attacked the Nation’s Capitol, at Donald ‘Mad King’ Trump’s invitation are insurrectionists and domestic terrorists.
To say they are hostages is at best ill-informed or insane. It is at worst, treasonous or collaborationist.
Later in the week, Mr. ‘I have been endorsed twice by former KKK leader David Duke’ faulted Abraham ‘The first Republican President in United States History’ for not negotiating a deal with the South to halt the start of the Civil War.
Two points.
This vintage of the Republican Party is not the Party of Lincoln anymore.
Second, and this just shows how historically illiterate Trump and his supporters are, Lincoln did try to negotiate a settlement with the South but the white nationalists in the Confederacy wanted slavery expanded in the new territories and not just restricted to their region where the Confederate leaders thought the institution would whither away if confined. Lincoln rightfully refused to give in to the Confederate demands.
Sorry white nationalists in Trump-MAGA World. The slave-holding Confederate Leaders are to blame for the Civil War. Not the Great Emancipator.
Meanwhile, people should note that the current President, Joe Biden, the one who has nominated more black women to the Court of Appeals than any President combined, gave a moving speech, raging against white supremacy and preaching the need to protect Democracy and expand equality and inclusivity for all American Citizens.
While President Biden has bragged about the great economy that has been created, in part due to legislation he has signed like the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act (which included a Prescription Drug Benefit,) and CHIPS Act, Donald ‘I mishandled the Coronavirus’ Trump did an interview where he said the good economy is because of his administration and he hoped the Stock Market would crash in the next 12 months because he did not want to be known as Herbert Hoover if elected.
He truly is the gift that keeps on giving…for the Democrats.
It did not take long for Biden/Harris Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez to deliver a blistering statement that read:
“Donald Trump should just say he doesn’t give a damn about people because that’s exactly what he’s telling the American people when he says he hopes the economy crashes. In his relentless pursuit of power and retribution, Donald Trump is rooting for a reality where millions of Americans lose their jobs and live with the crushing anxiety of figuring out how to afford basic needs.
“President Biden has delivered where Trump has failed the American people. On day one, he got to work fixing the economic crisis Trump left behind by helping to create over 14 million jobs, including bringing back hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs and lowering costs for families. The bottom line: President Biden wakes up every day working and rooting for the American people. Donald Trump spends every day worried about himself.”
Yolanda Bejarano of the Arizona Democratic Party also issued a statement, offering:
“For years, Donald Trump has been unapologetically committed to destroying the economy for Arizona families, and now that we are reaping historic gains from Bidenomics — from lower costs to record job growth — Trump is calling for the economy to crash. With his record as the worst President for jobs in modern American history, it doesn’t come as a surprise that he would root for Arizonan’s livelihoods to be crushed, but fortunately, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Arizona Democrats have turned the country around from Trump’s failed agenda and built a booming economy that’s delivering real impacts across our state.”
Finally, Mr. ‘I think veterans are suckers’ continued his years-long attack on the late Arizona Senator and 2008 Republican Presidential nominee John McCain by insinuating he was physically disabled when he voted against repealing the Affordable Care Act.
Attacking the still-popular McCain did not work out well for Trump in 2020 or his number one Grand Canyon State Fan, Kari Lake in 2022.
Morgan Dick of the Arizona Democratic Party (in contrast to the Trump-MAGA obedient state Republican version) issued a statement that read:
“Trump’s pathetic insults will not fool Arizonans. It’s clear that at the core of Trump’s hatred for the late Senator McCain is the want to strip healthcare away from Arizonans. On the third anniversary of January 6th, rather than speaking to the violence he spearheaded, Donald Trump decided to yet again bring to the forefront how badly Republicans want to take away our healthcare. Arizonans have continuously rejected Trump and the Republican party’s extremism and will do so again this November.”
Kevin Munoz of the Biden/Harris Campaign commented:
“Once again, Donald Trump proves he’s unfit for office. This time by attacking and belittling the late U.S. senator and war hero John McCain. Trump called our fallen soldiers ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,’ has denigrated military amputees, and tried to slash veterans’ benefits.
“Donald Trump could never understand a courageous hero like John McCain who was imprisoned and tortured while defending the freedoms of Arizonans and all Americans. Trump cares only about Trump – not the American people – which is why he will lose again this November.”
Hopefully, there will be more sane and well-informed people going to the polls this November (especially in the battleground states like Arizona) supporting Democracy, moving forward, equal rights, and reality than the naive, easy-taken, uninformed, and historically illiterate ones that support Trump-MAGA world.
