Chuck Schumer Has to Go

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, a skillful legislator and mover when there are Presidents who care about the country (Obama and Biden) is no longer the man to lead Senate Democrats during the Musk/Trump/Vance MAGA Central Committee Push to American Fascist-Autocracy.

His announcement, after virtually all of his Democratic Senate and House Colleagues declared their opposition to the MAGA Continuing Resolution to support that measure to avoid a government shutdown, signals the need for new leadership in the Democratic Senate ranks.

In his remarks in the Senate and in a well-articulated op-ed for the New York Times, Schumer, in a no-win situation, outlined several reasons for supporting the Continuing Resolution, including that Musk, Trump, and their MAGA apostates in Congress would love a shutdown because they would use it as an excuse to impose permanent cutbacks in the government departments they loathe.

One reaction to Schumer’s reasoning should be: Unless there is some secret Democratic master plan no one knows about, what the hell do you think Trump and his allies have been doing since he forgot to put his hand on the Bible last January 20?

There has been nothing but nonstop attempts to destroy government departments, institutions, and Democratic norms since the MAGA crowd resumed power at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Courts are intervening, but the Musk/Trump/Vance Central Committee is slow-walking compliance with their orders.

Shutdown or no shutdown, the American People are going to suffer.

The mission of the opposition party is to oppose. Not like Newt Gingrich or Mitch McConnell, who would have gone against Bill Clinton or Barack Obama if they found the cure for cancer but oppose disastrous policies for the American People.

This Continuing Resolution, with its cutbacks and language giving Musk/Trump/Vance latitude to prioritize spending, is a disastrous policy.

There are some fights worth having, and this is it.

If leaders from Canada and Mexico can push back on the American Duce, why not the Democratic Senate Leader from New York?

I’m voting NO on the Republican spending bill

Read Representative Yassamin Ansari’s below post:

Meeting the moment means recognizing that Americans expect us to fight— and to use any leverage we have against authoritarianism. It is inexcusable for any Democratic Senator to vote for the Republican funding bill. To say the consequences will be severe is an understatement.

Yassamin Ansari (@yassaminansari.bsky.social) 2025-03-14T01:05:40.589Z

The Continuing Resolution should be voted down and if Chuck Schumer does not have the strength to fight, then Democrats need to have a new leader that has the stomach for it.

If Chuck Schumer, as Representative Ansari said, can not meet history’s moment, it is time for him to go.

It is time to stand up to the bully with the Orange Hair.

  1. From cozying up to Wall Street interests to clearing the field to knowingly elect the worst Democrat (Kyrsten Sinema) in the House to Friday’s abomination one has to wonder if Schmucky Chuck is a Repuglican deep plant.

Best description of the Senate Minority Leader…a jellyfish without the sting.

  2. A shutdown would have harmed the economy, and the Dems would have owned it. The CR is like last year’s budget except that it has a little more military and a little less non-military, which seems appropriate now.

The actual crime is no budget reduction, given we have a nonsustainable 36 trillion dollar debt.

    • 36 trillion debt propelled by Reagan/Bush II/Trump tax cuts, massive buildups in the defense budget, two wars in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, a prescription drug benefit during the Bush II that was not paid for, responses to two Republican era recessions. In fact, Donald Trump is responsible for about eight trillion of the current national debt total. The only Presidencies that have overseen reductions in the deficit were Clinton (where there was a surplus at the end,) Obama, and Biden. To say, Democrats would have owned the shutdown is questionable. Recent polling shows more disatisfcation with Musk/Trump/Vance stewardship of the economy and their Project 2025 priorities of slash and destroy. President Biden and Vice President Harris left this team a very good economy and like everything Mr. Trump touches, including a casino, he drives it into the fiscal hole. https://www.crfb.org/blogs/how-much-did-president-trump-add-debt. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/many-americans-see-trumps-actions-economy-too-erratic-reutersipsos-poll-finds-2025-03-12/ https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/19/charting-the-biden-economy-deeply-unpopular-despite-growth-and-jobs.html

    • @Sen. Kavanagh –

Well., at least we know you are very skilled at shamelessly shoveling.

      “Dens would have owned it.”

      Really?
      Rs control the House.
      Rs control the Senate.
      Rs control the WH.

Yet you wish to rationalize your party’s bad acts by blaming others?

“I’ll take Hallmarks of a Bully for $1000 Alex.”

    • Is that all that was in the bill, John?

Did you read the bill, John?

Or are you just a parrot, repeating what you heard on the angertainment channel?

Because it doesn’t seem like you did, and it also seems like you didn’t actually read David’s article, because you 100% missed the point.

No one is saying being smart with taxpayer money is a bad idea, John. You do that to distract from Arizona coming in last in pretty much everything after decades of your party’s abuse.

David is posting about the other unAmerican unDemocratic crap your party put in the bill.

Thanks for sharing your thoughtful thoughts, John Who Lives on Government Cheese Kavanagh, you’ve added valuable insight to the discussion.

  3. I agree with David’s argument that it is time for Senator Shumer neets to step away from his leadership of the Senate Democratic cacus. Either he fails to understand that the Trump Republicans across the government are not like his Republican fellow members of the pre-2014 era; or he just dosen’t care. Either way, he’s no longer the leader Democrats need in this dog-eat-dog era of Trump-fueled politics.
What’s more the Democrats need to move fast, and in concert across Democrats in both houses. Understood that this is not easy, but for God’s sake, IT”S EXEXTENTIAL! I REALLY FEAR THAT OUR DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE. We cannot wst much more time to get organized to obstruct the Trump movement, and defend the democratic republic; and the Democratic Party is the only institution in government to do do It. Did Senator Schumer learn from the Republicans the value of direct obstruction? The Republicans have used for far more devious reasons over the past several years. Now Democrats must use it to save the Republic.
When the Democrats step up; they will have the support of a growing segment of the media (traditional and non-traditional, and the public in general. Think of the effect the growing number of public demonstrations can have!
I am thankful for the stated positions of our Senators and a number of our Congresspeople have taken against this vicioous continuing resolution. They seem to understand thaan Senator that voting against it is the right thing to do.
