On Thursday night the Decision Desk called the GQP primary for governor in Arizona for “Krazy Kari” Lake, the Big Lie election denier and QAnon cultist endorsed by the previous guy who plotted and carried out the first attempted coup d’état in American history.
After a bitter campaign against this shrill harpy liar, Karrin Taylor Robson conceded defeat. Karrin Taylor Robson concedes defeat in Arizona Republican gubernatorial primary:
Robson started her concession statement on Twitter by saying that she accepted the election results.
“The voters of Arizona have spoken, I accept the results, I trust the process and the people who administer it,” Robson wrote.
Robson congratulated Lake and endorsed the Republican ticket in the November general election, including Lake.
“I want to congratulate Kari Lake who is now the Republican nominee for Governor of Arizona,” Robson wrote. “I have spent my life supporting Republican candidates and conservative causes and it is my hope that our Republican nominees are successful in November. I am blessed to remember what I learned from my mom and dad and through athletic competition: Win with grace; lose with dignity.”
NO,NO, NO! Your history of GQP tribalism, supporting whomever has and (R) behind their name on the ballot without regard to qualifications, policies, morality, values or character is the absolutely WORST THING anyone can do! It is unprincipled and amoral when the survival of American democracy is on the ballot.
The Trump ticket in Arizona are anti-democracy authoritarians who would destroy American democracy to install an autocracy with the treasonous traitor Donald Trump in charge. Is this what you want, Ms. Robson? Because this is what you are actually endorsing.
Your only choice, Ms. Robson, was to do what Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has done. Hogan says he won’t support party’s nominee in Maryland governor contest:
Republican Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland said Sunday that he would not support his party’s nominee to fill his job, predicting that the GOP has “no chance of saving that governor seat.”
[On] Sunday, the governor reiterated his belief that Trump-backed state Del. Dan Cox was unqualified and said he would not vote for him — though he added that he hasn’t decided whether he’ll back the Democrat in the contest, Wes Moore.
“I would not support the guy,” Hogan said of Cox. “I wouldn’t let him in the governor’s office, let alone work for the governor’s office.”
This goes double for Governor Doug Ducey, who endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson (and chairs the Republican Governor’s Assocoation and controls an $31.4 million advertising budget for Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin). Gov. Ducey cannot endorse “Krazy Kari” Lake, nor spend any RGA money on advertising for her in Arizona.
UPDATE:
JUST IN Gov. Doug Ducey congratulates @KariLake. “It’s important for Arizona Republicans to unite behind our slate of candidates.” https://t.co/abb6p2RkGS

So Qari Lake blasts him for months calling him 'Do Nothing Ducey' and now he's kissing her butt. Politics man. Sad. Last week he said she's basically the worst thing to ever happen to AZ and now he loves her. Hypocrite. https://t.co/nfJNNSGu4y

FLASHBACK Back in Feb., @dougducey telegraphed "unity" call after @KariLake's victory when asked why he supported Christian nationalist State Sen. Wendy Rogers: "Better than a Democrat." Rogers won primary for 2nd term. Lately, she defending Alex Jones. https://t.co/IXqVuRZgxc

What does $11M buy? Well, based on the history of the @GOPGovs, lots of attack ads in AZ that the candidate can deny any responsibility or knowledge. https://t.co/H67ioA5qXx

As The Repubic’s Laurie Roberts recently wrote, Karrin Taylor Robson calls Kari Lake a liar, but she’d still support her for governor?
So, Kari Lake is a “fake,” a “fraud” and a closet Democrat whose actions should disqualify her from becoming Arizona’s governor, according to Karrin Taylor Robson.
And if she’s the Republican nominee, Robson will support her.
What in the ever loving hell?
“I’ve always supported the Republican nominee,” Taylor Robson told KTAR’s Gaydos and Chad on Tuesday. “While we might have differences of opinions, I always support the Republican nominee.”
Taylor Robson has no kind words for Lake
This, from the woman who told us on Twitter …
“Kari Lake spent 27 years as a liberal TV actress – we can’t trust her to be our next Governor.”
“The more Kari Lake panics she is going to lose this #AZgov election, the more she attempts to sow doubt about its results. Her allegations are meritless, reckless and disqualifying in someone who seeks the will of the governed in leading our state.”
“Getting reports that @KariLake is covering Donald Trump’s face on her campaign signs in Pima County. Now even her signs are 2-faced!”
“As Kari Lake takes the stage tonight she will continue to deny and lie about her liberal record, it’s important that voters know the facts about Fake Lake.”
“Fake Kari Lake claimed she was a Trump supporter. But days before the inauguration she was helping organize anti-Trump protests with her fellow leftists. Lake is lying about who she is. Her own words tell us the truth.”
“Fake Kari Lake is exposed yet again as a liberal hypocrite.”
“Kari Lake? She’s all talk – and she’s called for amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants. She’s an open-borders fraud.”
A lying hypocrite is better than a Democrat?
And that’s just in the last week.
Taylor Robson has spent [over $19 million] dollars regaling us with all the many reasons why Kari Lake should never, ever become governor.
But a two-faced lying hypocrite who can’t be trusted is better than … a Democrat?
Explains why she never renounced Sen. Wendy Rogers — the candidate she was “proud” to support in 2020 — after she began palling around with white nationalists and spewing antisemitic garbage.
Party over principle, I suppose. Always, party over principle.
And she calls Kari Lake a hypocrite?
Those of you who voted for Karrin Taylor Robson because you found “Krazy Kari” Lake too offensive to stomach should not follow Robson’s unprincipled and amoral GQP tribalism when the survival of American democracy is on the ballot.
Laurie Roberts comntinues, Karrin Taylor Robson voters will decide if Kari Lake or Katie Hobbs becomes governor:
Sometimes elections are not complicated. At all.
Sometimes, there is no need for public opinion polls. No need for campy TV commercials. No need for political endorsements. No need for yacking pundits or predictions.
And absolutely no math.
The race for Arizona governor will be like that now that Kari Lake has become the Republican nominee, running against Democrat Katie Hobbs.
Without any of the polling and not a bit of the guess work we know exactly who will determine the winner.
It is everyone who voted for Karrin Taylor Robson.
To slow down the mob or to lead it?
The Democrats who voted for Hobbs are not going to change their minds and vote for Lake.
The Republicans who voted for Lake are not going to change their minds and vote for Hobbs.
In a race between Lake and Hobbs, the Republicans who voted for Taylor Robson will determine Arizona’s next governor.
They will go into that contest knowing from legislative results that Arizona is primed to elect the most reactionary, conspiracy-driven Republican-controlled Legislature in state history. Perhaps in any state’s history.
Note: This is based on the assumption of GQP tribalism, that Republican registation advantage districts will elect Republicans over Democrats purely out of GQP tribalism. Republican voters can reject this assumption. More importantly, every unaffiliated (independent) voter can reject the Republcan candidate. Every MAGA/QAnon Big Lie election denier on the ballot should not receive your vote. You can reject the anti-democracy authoritarian Republicans by electing the Democratic candidate. Then you can get to work on taking back your party from these fascist interlopers.
Whomever is the next governor will not be able to prevent the reactionaries from running amok with crackpot legislation. But that person will be able to occasionally rein them in with a veto.
Unless it’s Lake.
In which case she not only will be leading the legislative mob but complaining that the pitchfork- and torch-carrying politicians are not running amok fast enough.
State over party or party over state?
Taylor Robson on the radio not long ago said she believes Lake “is a fraud, she’s fake” but added, “I’ve always supported the Republican nominee. While we might have differences of opinions, I always support the Republican nominee.”
No matter what?
Really?
Shouldn’t we find it difficult to support a person whom I know to be a fraud and a fake, no matter which political party that particular candidate represents?
Politicians are not defined by the “R” or the “D” after their names but by their characters. As people.
The right wing media is 300 yards long and 3 feet deep when it comes to market penetration. The biggest challenge for Lake is appealing to moderate or McCain Republicans and independent voters. She can’t do that trashing them on Right Side Broadcasting At CPAC.🤓 #2022midterms https://t.co/aKWBOEkpkX

So, in the end, the individuals whose votes will determine the next governor of Arizona have a fairly simple choice. The late Sen. John McCain used to preach the importance of country over party. Taylor Robson voters are facing a similar decision.
Will it be state over party, or party over state?
If you want to save American democracy from the anti-democracy authoritarians who would destroy American democracy to install an autocracy with the treasonous traitor Donald Trump in charge, you must vote for the Democratic candidates and reject all of the Republican candidates. There must be a consequence and a price to be paid for the Arizona Republican Party embracing fascism.

The Republic’s E.J.Montini writes, “Was Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey lying about Kari Lake then, or is he lying now?”, https://www.azcentral.com/story/opinion/op-ed/ej-montini/2022/08/07/gov-doug-ducey-lying-kari-lake-arizona/10258637002/
(Trick question: if his lips are moving he is lying)
There was a moment after it became clear that Kari Lake would be the Republican Party’s nominee for Arizona governor, when it seemed as if Doug Ducey, Arizona’s current governor, had grown a spine.
Ducey is the co-chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA), but he was an ardent supporter of Lake’s opponent, Karrin Taylor Robison, calling Lake a “fake,” saying she was “misleading voters” about election integrity and claiming that her whole campaign was “an act.”
Elected officials in Ducey’s position most often stay out of primary campaigns. They’ll only publicly take sides when they’ve come to the conclusion that one of the candidates not only is unqualified, but dangerous.
Like a “fake” who is “misleading voters” and putting on an “act.”
Would Ducey put state over party?
So, when Lake won the Arizona primary, there was a moment when Ducey was silent. It wasn’t him, but the vice-chair of the RGA, Kim Reynolds, who sent out a press release backing Lake, saying, “Arizona families want a leader who will fight back against the failed policies of Joe Biden and Democrats and that’s exactly what they got with Kari Lake – she’s a fighter.”
Really?
That’s what Arizona voters got?
Because that isn’t what the RGA’s co-chair, Doug Ducey, Arizona’s governor, said in July, when he went CNN and said, “Kari Lake is misleading voters (about the 2020 election) with no evidence. She’s been tagged by her opponents with the nickname ‘Fake Lake,’ which seems to be sticking and actually doing some damage.”
He added, “This is all an act. She’s been putting on a show for some time now and we’ll see if the voters of Arizona buy it.”
As it turned out, Republican voters in Arizona did buy it.
Lake was ‘fake’ before but worth supporting now?
And for a second there, when Ducey allowed the vice-chair of his group to speak for the RGA, it looked like he might have developed a backbone after all. That he might have some intestinal fortitude. That he might stick to his guns, show some integrity, and continue to express his criticism and concerns about Lake.
But … no.
Over the weekend Ducey was tweeting congratulations to Lake and promising support from the governors association.
Among other things he said, “As co-chairman of the Republican Governors Association, our organization is already active on the airwaves supporting Kari Lake’s candidacy. Congratulations to Kari on a hard-fought victory and to all the candidates who will be carrying the GOP banner in November.”
He also said, “This is going to be an important election given the issues our state is facing and it’s important for Arizona Republicans to unite behind our slate of candidates.”
So, Republicans in Arizona are supposed to unite behind a person Ducey labeled a “fake” who is “misleading voters” and putting on an “act”?
If Ducey believes that, then in the worst possible way he is putting his political party above his state.
And if he doesn’t believe it, but is saying so anyway, it’s even worse.
Either way, it leaves the citizens of Arizona with one simple question about their term-limited governor.
Was Ducey lying about Lake then, or is he lying about her now?
