Dwight Leister criticizes Minority Leader Reid and Arizona Protesters

Dwight Leister again commented at Sentor Frist’s blog. Some Democrats may agree with his sentiments, but I find his elision of Latino protesters with ‘Mexican nationals breaking our laws’ to be distasteful, at best. His criticism of Senator Reid bolsters the GOP’s demogogic rhetoric over Reid’s skillful handling of the parliamentary proceedure to stop the majority from passing unrealistic policies.

I can not support the statements of Senator Hary Ried of Nevada, when he said he voted against and obstructed the bill agreed to by everyone from Kennedy to Kly because of the Mexican Nationals making the beds at the MGM Grand!

As a member of the AFL-CIO I take that one personally and remember the Union Hotel workers whom went on strike for better wages and benifits , that were fired and replaced by Mexican Nationals!

I now know what Senator Ried means by allowing Mexican Nationals into Nevada to work on the Las Vegas Strip, as Union Busters, in favor of "WHAT GOES ON IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS," just has gotten new meaning! The Democratic Party now stands for Mexican Nationals over Union Jobs and workers?

We in Arizona are now facing marches in Phoenix and Tucson by Mexican Nationals breaking our laws and now impacting our values as a Nation built on the Rule of Law.

Continued mis-statements by Senator Ried will not just hurt the Democratic Party but The Nation will turn into a nation of "What comes into The United States "Stays" in the United States!

Is Mr. Leister aiming to be CD 8’s Joe Lieberman on immigration? If so, he’s doing an excellent job of legitimizing the GOP’s tactics. Just as Lieberman has become the GOP’s favorite Democrat to cover their failed neo-con foriegn policy with a veneer of bi-partisanship, Mr. Leister seems eager to provide cover for the GOP’s frankly racist and eliminationist hostility to immigrants with his own brand Democratic ‘me too’ jingoism.

Senator Reid responded to the rhetoric of GOP critics on immigration over the weekend in a press realease. His statement seems to apply equally to Mr. Liester’s comment:

“In a week when President Bush was unable to convince House Republicans
to pass his budget, was unable to convince Senate Republicans to pass
immigration reform, and was caught misleading the American people about
national security matters yet again, it’s no surprise that he would
take a page from the Karl Rove playbook and blame Democrats to distract
from his own troubles. The fact is, President Bush and Senator Frist
are flat out wrong about what happened to the immigration bill.
Democrats are committed to comprehensive, bipartisan immigration
reform. That’s why we voted twice last week in favor of it. It was
President Bush and Republicans in Congress who lacked the backbone to
stand up to the extreme right-wing of their party, filibustered reform
twice in two days, and put partisan politics ahead of border security
and immigration reform.”
