One of my favorite Saturday Night Live characters was Gilda Radner's hard-of-hearing Emily Litella, who would read a rebuttal to a Weekend Update editorial that demonstrated she had not understood any of what she thought she had heard, and when her error was explained to her by the Weekend Update anchor (Chevy Chase or Jane Curtin), she would say "well that's different" and conclude with "Never mind!"
This is what happened last Wednesday at an AIRC meeting in Phoenix at which Emily Litella Lynne St. Angelo, LD 26 Tea Party organizer, testified.
Steve Muratore briefly described it at The Arizona Eagletarian: Redistricting — Justice O'Connor addresses the AIRC — UPDATED:
The AIRC also authorized contracting with Catalyst: Secure, an "e-discovery" firm. Apparently, this one hit another nerve with the tea people. I found out at a recess that on Tuesday a brewhaha came up. It seems Strategic Telemetry had previously worked with a firm called Catalist. Needless to say, tea party puppetmistress Lynne St. Angelo took her customary turn at the public input mic to harangue the AIRC over this. But she was talking about Catalist, not Catalyst: Secure.
The classic Emily Litella moment: "Well that's different… "Never mind!"
This pure comedy gold continued when "puppetmistress" Lynne St. Angelo and her "not ready for prime time players" in the Tea Party suggested the commission had mispelled the company name to intentionally mislead them in their Google search to make them look foolish. (Always with the conspiracy theories.) Sorry lady, you managed to accomplish that all by yourself.
The comedy continued the next day in Casa Grande when Cap'n Al Melvin drove up with Tea Party "puppetmistress" Lynne St. Angelo. The Arizona Eagletarian: Redistricting — To Define or Not to Define, THAT is the question — UPDATED. Cap'n Al went off on one of his unhinged tirades for which he was told he was out of order:
Melvin then cut his "testimony" short and Lynne St. Angelo, the tea party organizer with whom Melvin traveled to the meeting, is heard clapping loudly and rapidly.
"I love you Cap'n Al, you're my hero!" Geeeez!
Lynne St. Angelo and her "not ready for prime time players" bring their Tea Party comedy tour to Tucson on Monday at the DoubleTree Hotel beginning at 9:00 a.m. If you could use a good laugh, be sure not to miss it.
