Pedagogy in the Shadow of ICE
February 20 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm MST
by Carolyn Classen, blogger

“We’re forwarding you the message we just sent to ECE students about a community conversation we will be having on February 20th. The conversation is titled, “Pedagogy in the Shadow of ICE: Navigating Immigration, Trauma, and Teaching Young Learners”. The event will consist of a panel of early childhood educators who will share their stories of how they are navigating not only this current rescission of the Guidelines for Enforcement Actions in or Near Protected Areas memorandum but also the ongoing struggles they’ve experienced even before this rescission.
We’d like to extend the invitation to you all to attend if you’re interested. You are welcome to attend as a listener, and you are also welcome to share a bit about your perspective if you’d like.

In this session, we will hear from a panel of in-service early childhood educators who will share their experiences and the practical teaching strategies they use to support children and families navigating immigration-related challenges. This conversation is an opportunity to engage with educators actively addressing these realities in their classrooms and reflect on ways we, as future teachers, can create safe and supportive learning environments.
This event is open to anyone interested, including your mentor teachers. Please feel free to share the registration information with them!
Additionally, if you have any resources you’d like to contribute or if you have observed particularly thoughtful approaches from your mentor teacher in navigating these issues, we would love to highlight these insights in our discussion.”
