See Michael Bryan & Kim Bayne on Reaching Voters with Grassroots News

May 28 @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm MST

Michael Bryan knows that the news environment is experiencing huge upheaval. Social media is playing a much bigger role in Americans’ news diets, while many traditional media outlets have shed staff or folded altogether.

  • In just three years, the share of U.S. adults who say they regularly get news from TikTok has more than quadrupled, from 3% in 2020 to 14% in 2023.
  • Roughly half of U.S. adults say they’ve listened to a podcast in the past year, including one-in-five who report listening at least a few times a week.
  •  16% of Americans get their news from Instagram.

Michael Bryan is a retired prosecuting attorney who is an expert on grassroots news. For the past twenty years, he has published the Blog For Arizona, which focuses on Arizona’s politics. He is a lifelong Democrat, an elected PC, a former candidate for state legislature, a former first Vice Chair in LD20, and the first Vice Chair and Program Director of the Democrats of Greater Tucson.

Social media activist Kim Bayne will also be on hand to discuss LD18’s hyperlocal social media strategy and tactics, highlighting successful content and engagement metrics. She’ll provide tips how Pima County voters can leverage social media to amplify Democratic initiatives and counteract disinformation.
