Fact Check: Jesse Kelly’s ‘pants on fire’ – the $500 billion lie that will not die

Liar-LiarOh, sweet Jesus! Even after every media fact check organization in America has rated the GOP claim that Democrats cut $500 billion from Medicare benefits a "pants on fire" lie repeatedly since 2010, my summary here Fact Check: The NRCC's 'pants on fire' – the $500 billion lie that will not die, Jesse Kelly has doubled-down on this "big lie" propaganda campaign with a new ad featuring his grandpa Hank.

That is desperation. And how sad that grandpa Hank is willing to participate in a lie for his grandkid.

David Safier posted the ad video and commented on the comical dialogue of the ad, asking if it is based on a 1950's TV show like Lassie. Star article on Kelly's press conference: Better.

David has not lived in Tucson as long as I have. Long-time residents of Tucson immediately recognize the construct of this ad: it is Jim Click advertising. Remember Jim Click's ads with with his dad "Boompa"? And his ads with Hank Lominac ("that's exactly right, Hank")? The two Hanks make for a curious parallel. I am wondering if the ad company that does Jim Click's ads made this ad for Kelly as well.

And about that comical dialogue:

Grandpa Hank: "Don't let Ron Barber cut my benefits.”

Jesse Kelly (sitting beside his grandfather): “Don’t worry, grandpa, I won’t.”

Grandpa Hank: “I know you’ll protect us.”

First of all, doesn't Jesse Kelly work for his daddy's construction company, Don Kelly Construction? Is he so into the nihilistic Ayn Rand philosophy of "I've got mine, f#%k you!" selfishness that grandpa Hank is left to rely on "socialist" security, VA benefits and Medicare that Jesse Kelly said in 2010 is being "on the public dole"? Where are those Kelly "family values" of looking out for your own family? Is grandpa Hank a 'socialist" dependent on the public dole? That's the subtext of this ad.

Secondly, Jesse Kelly's newly stated position on social security and Medicare is no "clarification" as his equally truth-challenged campaign spokesman John Ellinwood said, but is a complete 180 degrees from Kelly's on-the-record statements (we have video!) during the 2010 campaign.

Jesse Kelly is trying to do the shameless shapeshifter and pathological liar Willard "Mittens" Romney one better on his "amnesia" campaign: Jesse Kelly 2.0 wants voters to forget that Jesse Kelly 1.0 ever existed. "Ignore than man behind the curtain!' as the Wizard of Oz said. Kelly is running a purposeful campaign of deceit and "big lie" propaganda, pure ans simple.

The Arizona Daily Star just cannot bring itself to Fact Check Jesse Kelly's ads (it has already been done dozens of times by others, just pick one!) and declare the ads false. The Star cannot bring itself to call Jesse Kelly a "liar." It may have something to do with all of that Jim Click advertising the newspaper is so financially dependent upon.

It will be interesting to see the Arizona Daily Star's editorial endorsement in this CD 8 special election.
