Economists at global investment advisor Goldman Sachs predict an economic boost if Kamala Harris is elected — but the opposite will happen if Trump takes over the White House.
Goldman economists, including Alec Phillips, noted a more positive outcome if Harris wins and Democrats take a majority of Congress.
The experts said that U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) over 2025-2026 will benefit from new spending and expanded middle-income tax credits by the Harris/Walz Democratic ticket.
The experts expected that the economy under the Democrats would offset lower investment due to higher corporate tax rates.
Goldman reported that the slowdown in immigration will continue under Harris but not at the expense of the economy.
“We estimate that the contribution from immigration to labor force growth if Harris wins, would be 10,000 per month higher than if Trump wins with divided government,” and 30,000 a month higher than if Republicans sweep, Goldman’s economists wrote.

Trump = a bad economy
“We estimate that if Trump wins in a sweep or with divided government, the hit to growth from tariffs and tighter immigration policy will outweigh the positive fiscal impulse,” the Goldman Sachs note stated.
Goldman economists estimate a Trump win could push down the GDP by as much as 0.5% in the second half of next year. The effect of the hit would continue to decrease into 2026.
The economists expect a 20% hike in China tariffs under a Trump administration. Higher duties on auto imports from the European Union and Mexico and reduced immigration could slow growth in the labor sector.
Watch: With Democrats, Things Get Better
See the video below by Simon Rosenberg of the Hopium Chronicles. It is a 30-minute, data-filled deep dive into American politics since the Cold War ended and a new age of globalization began. It tells a simple story—that when Democrats are in the White House, things get better in America. With Republicans, we’ve had recessions, higher deficits, American decline, and now a true threat to our democracy itself.
