Governor Katie Hobbs Launches Know Your Rights Site to Counter ICE Aggression and Lawlessness

People in Arizona, especially those who are non-white potential victims and protestors to the criminal unconstitutionality of the Trump regime and its ICE-Gestapo thugs, need to familiarize themselves with the above site, launched by Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs.

It gives guidance for people on what to do if confronted by Trump and Stephen Miller’s fascist blackshirts, including:

  • Knowing your constitutional rights to an attorney, to remain silent, and to have an interpreter.
  • What ICE can legally do if they confront you on the street, your property, or in your workplace.
  • Keeping valid papers, like state tribal cards or a passport, on your person that prove you have the right to stay in Arizona and the United States.
  • Creating emergency plans for your families, especially your children, if ICE thugs detain you.
  • What to do during a protest.
  • Document any ICE abuses that people have experienced and forward them to Arizona Attorney General Kris Maye’s office at https://www.azag.gov/complaints/federal-misconduct.

In a video to Arizonans notifying them of the launch of the site, Governor Hobbs said:

“I share the fear and anger of many Arizonans who, over the past year, have seen far too many instances of federal agents denying us our right to peaceful protest, in some instances, unlawfully detaining and arresting American citizens, and in horrific cases in Minnesota, shooting and killing two people.

It’s devastating to see and read about abuses of power that threaten our Constitutional rights by some of the very people meant to protect us. Those abuses are putting both community members and law enforcement in danger and don’t help keep us safe. They simply create fear and erode important trust between law enforcement and our community.

There must be full, thorough, and transparent investigations into each and every alleged violation of the law, and accountability for anyone found to have done wrong. During this time of heightened tension, Arizonans deserve to know their rights. Thats why I launching knowyourrights.az.gov. There, you can find guidance on your constitutionally protected rights in English and Spanish, including how to lawfully and peacefully protest, what to do if stopped by ICE agents, and what to do if ICE comes to your business.

You have a right to remain silent. You have the right to speak with an attorney, and you have a right to peacefully protest without fear of harm or retaliation.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to protect the rights found in our Constitution and make our voices heard with calm and peaceful protest.

I hope this is a valuable resource that helps us build communities where every Arizonan can feel secure and protect our families against any abuse of power. As long as I’m Governor, I will always put the safety and Security of Arizonans first.”

After the Governor broadcast the video and launched the site, her Press Secretary, Liliana Soto posted on social media in both English and Spanish.

“In times of uncertainty and misinformation, it is important that we know our rights regardless of immigration status.”

In reporting by The Tucson Sentinel, Republican State Senators Jake Hoffman and John Kavanagh, of course, raised objections to the Governors remarks and the site.

Troll Farm, election denying, and auto speedster Hoffman commented that:

“The efforts of Katie Hobbs to aid and protect dangerous criminal illegals like murderers, rapists, and pedophiles are disgusting. This latest half-baked ploy by Katie to virtue signal to her extremist voter base is an insult to every law-abiding citizen in Arizona.”

However, according to reporting from the Sentinel, Hoffman could not answer why it was inappropriate for the Governor to let people know their rights.

Governor Hobb’s Communications Director, Christian Slater, called Hoffman’s tirade “Sad and pathetic” on social media and also wrote “We must protect the constitution!”

Arizona Republicans would do well to put out speakers on the Constitution and law and order who do not have a wrap sheet.

Kavanagh, the Senate Republican Leader, quibbled over the Governor’s remarks and cited her claims on searches and the need for warrants, arguing that Hobb’s was not specific enough on the former and did not allow for “exigent circumstances” on the latter.

He also took issue with Hobbs not calling out protestors who provoke and obstruct the police.

It was clear from the video that the Governor mentioned peaceful protests. Common sense dictates that Hobbs would not include provoking the police or obstructing them under the definition of peaceful. Just saying.

Kavanagh also insinuated that the Governor is playing catch-up with the Democratic base compared to similar and earlier announcements made by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, and for saying the state’s top lawyer used poor wording when she said ICE agents may have to worry about not identifying themselves in a state where Arizonans have the right to carry concealed weapons and defend themselves against potential unidentified assailants.

To that assertion, Slater told the Tucson Sentinel:

“That’s baseless speculation. It’s pathetic that Sen. Kavanagh thinks elected officials need political incentives to protect the rights found in our Constitution.”

Again, people should familiarize themselves with this site since ICE has proven time and time again that they are not discriminatory in who they might stop on the street, pull over in their car, or detain when visiting a home, school, or place of business.
