The Arizona Daily Star editorialized several times this year, while actively trying to recruit candidates to run for mayor and council of Tucson, that the voters are entitled to a "robust debate" on the issues affecting Tucson.
On Monday night, the League of Women Voters hosted a debate for mayor and council candidates for Tucson for two and one-half hours. The Star's "robust debate" coverage: a few paragraphs about the mayoral candidates' response to a single question about the proposed Rosemont Mine south of Tucson. That was it. Mayor candidates split on backing Rosemont Mine.
I guess they didn't really mean it when they were whining about a "robust debate," when the Star doesn't report it. This is one dysfunctional newspaper.
